      Here is Volkswagen's official teaser for the new MKVII Golf R. Not much to see here, right? Volkswagen chose to set up a teaser page for the car which looks as if it is enclosed in a giant block of ice. The countdown clock appears to point to about 13 days and 18 hours from today at which point the "beast" will be unfrozen.

      Expect a 290 horsepower 2.0 liter turbo direct injected four-cylinder and DSG or a 6-speed routing power to all four wheels. Basically, it seems this car will mimic the new 8V generation Audi S3. That car has 300 horsepower from the 2.0 liter motor meaning the Golf R will likely get a slightly lower hp rating due to software changes to protect Audi egos. Nothing an aftermarket tune won't address.

      The new Golf R should be lighter and much faster. The new S3 is 132 pounds lighter than its predecessor. Expect the official debut at the Geneva auto show in March and more details once the Golf R "melts."
