• The F10 5-Series is getting a facelift for 2015, spyphotos - Revisions/updates to the M5?

      It seems like everyone in the mid-size luxury sedan segment is giving their cars a facelift and BMW will be joining the fray. The Porsche Panamera is getting an external facelift with driveline changes. The facelifted W212 Mercedes E-Class was recently revealed with exterior changes and driveline changes. That begs the question if the BMW F10 facelift will just be cosmetic as BMW often does or if there will be changes under the skin as well.

      With the Porsche Panamera S and Turbo models to get bumps in power and with the E63/CLS 63 AMG getting all wheel drive as well as a bump in power it will be interesting to see if the M5 gets any revision. The M5 is currently the most powerful car in its class as its underrated dyno numbers show but that is coming to an end when the new E63 AMG shows up.

      With the new Audi RS7 also in the mix it will be interesting to see if BMW does anything with the M5 or just leaves the model stagnant through its lifespan as it has with previous generations. Expect cosmetic changes (and an F32 4-Series style side vent to be incorporated) at the very least.

        I hope they revise the steering system in some way, we sold our F10 because the steering was so annoyingly $#@!ty. Our F30 has pretty great steering, considering it's using EPS, so they could easily revise their programming for the F10's system. I remember hearing rumors that they were working on the front suspension geometry for this facelift (don't remember where I read that) and BMW already has set the precedent for this kind of thing, I think it was the original E46 that got some criticism for its steering that was taken care of in the facelift.

        A lot of complaints about steering on the newer BMW's especially the F10.

        So I have a completely opposite opinion... A family member has an F10 535i with Sport Package and the steering especially in dynamic mode is awesome for a 5 series. The steering in the F30 which is supposed to be a true sports sedan is a massive disappointment.

        Our 5 didn't have the sports package (the F30 does) so I'm sure the car you drove was better than ours, but we had it for 45,000 miles and I can say I never once got used to how $#@!ty the steering was. I hated every single minute of driving that car, but I like driving the F30 a lot even though I currently also own an E82 135i and an E92 335is and drive one of these two every day. I do agree with you that it's forgivable considering the typical buyer of a 5 series and I also agree that the 3 is a let down considering how much is expected of it, I would say the F30 is a step backwards from the E90 generation in terms of steering feel. I was just saying that if you directly compare steering feel, especially just off-center, and responsiveness and if you remember that the F10 and F30 use the exact same ZF power steering system then it becomes obvious that the 3 series' engineering team did a better job calibrating the system and it seems like a simple job for the 5 series team to improve the system's feel on this 5 series facelift.

        see that's the thing... a BMW without sport package is about as useful as a snooze button on a smoke alarm...

        the 5 I drove had the sport package w damper settings, dynamic driving settings as well as 245 tires in the front w 19 inch sport package wheels... trust me, it drives very well for a big 5 series. I drive an e92 335i and I say this. On the other hand, I drove an F30 335i and it felt very light...
