Volkswagen steals AMG engine guru Friedrich Eichler responsible for the M156, M133, M157, and Pagani Huayra motor from Mercedes-Benz

Volkswagen is playing some hardball. For those unfamiliar, the AMG motors you have loved in the past couple generations of AMG models have had the commonality of high performance engine engineer Friedrich Eichler involved in development. He has helped develop the M156 6.2 liter naturally aspirated AMG V8, the M157 5.5 liter twin turbo V8, the Pagani Huayra twin turbo V12, and most recently the amazing
M133 354 horsepower M133 2.0 liter turbo four-cylinder with 26 psi of boost stock.
Eichler will be moving to an engine development position inside Volkswagen which is unspecified. It could be with any of the brands in the portfolio. He was lured away from Mercedes by current VW engine boss Heinz-Jacob Neusser whom Eichler worked with previously at Porsche.
Should be interesting to see how this affects both VW and AMG engine development.
