      The sprint to 60 is not quite as important as it once was due to just how powerful cars have become. It is usually a traction limited stat but there are still cars where traction is not the limiting factor and these are all wheel drive cars. We are going to see more and more vehicles switch to all wheel drive and it is hard to deny the performance result. How about 2.7 seconds to 60 miles per hour for the 2012 Porsche 911 Turbo S?


      In MotorTrend's words:

      "The king of the 0-60 mph pile has all the right ingredients: launch control, all-wheel drive, a twin-clutch automatic transmission, and the numbers “911” affixed to its name. After all, if the marginally less powerful, 500-hp Porsche 911 Turbo (no “S”) can do the deed in 2.8 seconds, the more powerful, 530-hp 911 Turbo S should be quicker, right? And it absolutely was, by the skin of its teeth. Not a bad way for the 997-series to wind out its run."

      The current standings, in order of performance:

      10. 2013 BMW M5 – 3.7 seconds
      9. 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster – 3.6 seconds
      8. 2013 Audi S8 – 3.5 seconds
      7. 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 – 3.5 seconds
      6. 2013 SRT Viper GTS – 3.4 seconds
      5. 2013 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 – 3.4 seconds
      4. 2012 McLaren MP4-12C – 2.9 seconds
      3. 2013 Nissan GT-R Black Edition – 2.8 seconds
      2. 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 – 2.8 seconds
      1. 2012 Porsche 911 Turbo S – 2.7 seconds

        I've posted this video before, but I'll do it again because it just reiterates what's already been said. The 997.2 Turbo S is absolutely ridiculous in showroom stock configuration. My buddy won the showroom stock class for the Mojave Mile this year. And I can assure you, the car has no mods whatsoever:

        The 997.2 PDK does an incredible job with what it has. Definitely makes me want one and it will be interesting to see what they do with the 991.

        I think you can bank on the fact that any of the 991 (TT)S, GT(S) and especially RS iterations will be $#@!ing BAD ASS. But they will also come with a hefty pricetag. And there will be lots of people doing the usual bang for the buck comparison but at the end of the day no one can deny the fact that Porsche is churning out some very impressive hardware that is leaps and bounds ahead of the competition.

        How I would LOVE to see them campaign a Formula One team. Ohhhhh momma.

        That's pretty amazing. Daily drivable cars are now seconds fasters to 60 than the supercars of a few years ago. Hooray for technology and engineering.

        Forget Formula 1, Porsche is contesting the LMP1 AND GT1 classes at Le Mans!

        Daily driveable yes. Comfortable and lending to all the $#@! you have to deal with on a daily basis. Not so much. But you are right at a base level.....daily driveable for sure for the right person. these things love to be driven.

        This is a MotorTrend list. That means you won't see Pagani as it is not sold in the USA. Secondly, it is just from 2012 tests.

        Ariel claims this variant will accelerate from 0-60 mph in "less than 2.3 seconds"

        Then again this is a car from 2008

        The Atom will be faster than anything. Weighs basically nothing with decent power...

        Not really much of a "car" though. More of a four-wheel motorcycle.

        The Huayra is coming to the US, it's already gone through our crash tests. Apparently they crashed the same Huayra eight times and the windshield didn't even crack! (according to some Pagani documentary I saw recently)
