Daimler and Mercedes-Benz AMG set to supply Aston Martin with engines and other technology?

Currently Aston Martin engines are manufactured by Ford. This is a relic that remains from when the Ford Motor Company owned Aston Martin. Apparently, Aston is seeking new technology and their supplier apparently will be Mercedes-Benz. Aston and Mercedes attempted to partner last year namely for design purposes that would benefit future Mercedes-Benz models but that deal fell through. However, It appears the partnership will be resurrected with Aston being supplied Mercedes AMG V12 motors.


This collaboration may not just stop at motors. Apparently Aston needs a complete technology overhaul so Mercedes will provides other aspects to bring the Aston lineup up to speed technologically to make it more modern.

So what is causing all this speculation? Italy's Investindustrial firm purchased a 37.5% stake in Aston Martin. Investindustrial owned Ducati previously which before being sold to Audi was negotiating with AMG. A Mercedes source now tells Autocar that Investindustrial is asking for Mercedes to be Aston's technology partner.

We will likely see Mercedes AMG V12 motors and likely other AMG engines under the hood of Aston's. This will certainly make Aston vehicles much more potent performance wise. Certainly an interesting development to watch.
