• COBB AccessPORT released for the N55 single turbo powered 2011 and up BMW 135, 335i and 335xi

COBB is extremely happy to announce the release of the AccessPORT for the N55 powered 2011 BMW 135, 335i and 335xi. We have been cranking extremely hard to get this out – with our best engineers working on making this a terrific product. This is a Beta release – which means that although the support and tuning are 100% complete and, frankly, awesome – we don’t support every single ROM on the road right now. As most of you know (but your friends might not), a ROM is an individual calibration file that makes small tweaks to the Engine Control Unit from the factory.

Usually these changes are small and completely imperceptible to the consumer – however, we always want to support the latest the OEM has to offer so that all of the safety and reliability that BMW engineers into its vehicles stay there. It takes more work to do it this way – but we think it's best for you and your car.

As such, during this Beta release of the AccessPORT, it is expected that several customers will need to send in the ROM data collected by the AccessPORT before the installation can be completed. Typically, new ROM support can be added in only 3-5 business days and is as simple as emailing your ROM information, and then completing an AccessPORT update on your home computer. As we collect more ROMs, the chance of having an unsupported ECU software revision goes down significantly and the sooner you can enjoy the added power!

The AP-BMW-002 will come pre-loaded with Stage 1 Sport and Stage 1 Aggressive power maps, as well as a Stage 0 map and Valet mode for reduced power when needed. Using the Aggressive map, you can expect an 11% increase in peak HP and a 25% increase in peak torque. The area under the curved is also massively increased with maximum power gains near 18% in HP and 26% in torque. Stay tuned for more maps (Stage 1+COBB FMIC) and updates coming soon as N55 development continues! Click the link below for more information and to get yours now!

I don't remember the exact boost curve over the pull, but it does taper as you would expect from a small turbo. The JB4 we tested made less power, but it seemed to be plagued with some pretty serious throttle closures causing a rough power curve (seems like this might have been a fluke). Might have looked ok without the throttle closures.

        Cheers,
        Rob
Be sure to test out our new N55 JB4 ISO firmware. We've made some pretty serious revisions to N55 boost targeting for the better.

Looking forward to ATP for the N55 so we can work on a backend flash for those who want to run nitrous, go to a larger turbo, etc.

I don't have access to it or I would. I believe it was up to date as of a couple months ago. Changes since then?

We're working on getting ATP ready. I would like to feel the two working together. Have not had a chance yet.

        Cheers,
        Rob

I am sure we will need to add support for some of y'all. If anyone runs into a situation where the AP does not recognize your ROM revision, please follow the instructions in the link below:

        Hi Turkish,

The E7x should come quickly. I need a 2011 E7x N55 at the Austin shop for verification before release. If anyone knows of a 2011 X5/X6 in the Austin area, please let me know.

        Cheers,
        Rob

Im running the aggressive stage 1 map with a fmic and catless dp and charge pipe. So far the boost target is 13.5 but it never reaches past 12.5 as my peak spike in boost. The car really pulls hard and smooth all the way in my xdrive e90.

Sometimes its not always about how much boost you run. I would rather boost be kept lower and still drive way better than stock. I hate reverse on the N55 6MT...its like bmw purposely deaded throttle response to keep you from smashing something in reverse...ive been driving stick for 16 years and i always manage to stall an N55 CAR...

Im not really complaining, was just mentioning the boost levels because of the question earlier in this thread. I'm very happy with the stage 1 tune but ill def need more to keep me happy. I switched from having a sweet setup with my Procede v5 rev3.0 with full trunk mount setup and custom tuning where I pushed 18psi and a +4 deg ignition advance that is total around 14deg.

i just wanted to try out a flash vs piggy and so far it's much better for my 6AT xdrive car and the god awful customer service from Vishnu made it easier for me to switch.

Here it is if you have the early DME. No failure in field seen yet, but best to have BMW update your DME before first upload.

Hey guys, I wanted to give everyone a head's up. During testing of an older rom this week, we've found an issue with some of BMW's DME code. This code can cause a serious issue while flashing and could possibly leave the car inoperable. The team and myself worked very hard to find this issue, it's root cause, and create a solution for everyone. I put the finishing touches on some new firmware this evening and we'll run it through final testing next week.
Because, of this issue, please do NOT flash your vehicle at his time if you have a 9780B or 96A0B rom.

There are only a few of you with these roms (they are a very early revision) and most if not all should have received an email from us regarding the issue. I just wanted to post here as well to make sure everyone knows. We haven't seen a failure in the field, but we want to make sure that this is not an issue for anyone.

If you do have one of the bad roms, we will let you know when the fw fix is released and you will then be able to safely uninstall your AP. At the point, you'll just need to go to your dealer and get your DME updated to a later rom revision that does not have the bug. Once this is done, you can install the Accessport to enjoy your added power again!

In the future we will not support any 96A0B or 9780B roms as the code is too volatile. These roms have been updated by BMW for a reason and the new roms seem to be a much better running tune as well (even stock).

As always, you can contact us about any questions you might have by replying to this email, emailing support@cobbtuning.com, or calling us at 866-922-3059. We appreciate your patience and understanding with this issue.

Also, feel free to PM or email me directly if you have any questions or concerns.
        josh.dankel@cobbtuning.com

Cobb will display it on both the hand held unit and in their access port manager software.

if you have a bad ROM that cobb doesn't support, you can head over to BMW and get it updated. Just say there is a SIB #120912
