    • Trouble in paradise? Vishnu/FFtec N54 335ii Single Turbo kits experiencing issues as a BimmerBoost member runs 12.5@121 with misfires and having to short shift

BimmerBoost would like to thank member GeorgiaTech335Coupe for his openness and honesty regarding his Vishnu/FFTEC single turbo setup. Recently, this member took his single turbo upgraded 6-speed manual 335i to the PBIR (Palm Beach International Raceway) dragstrip in Florida to do some testing. His best run was a 12.50@121.6 alongside a 12.8@117. Yes, these times are quite a ways away from the 10.8@131 glory pass from Vishnu demonstrating the kits capability.

This is in no way the fault of GeorgiaTech335Coupe who experienced misfires on his car and had to short shift at 6300 rpm in order to avoid them. Now, Vishnu has basically portrayed this kit as perfect and ready for sale with nobody having any issues. The reason BimmerBoost is bringing this issue to the attention of the community is for potential buyers to understand what they are getting into.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having issues when modifying a car to this level and BimmerBoost is confident Vishnu will resolve them. There is something wrong with pretending nothing is wrong. A few cars with the single turbo kits have gone up for sale and apparently a total of three people, that are willing to open their mouths, are having misfire issues with these kits.

These issues will no doubt get resolved but potential buyers and current customers needs to be aware of the process, effort, and that progress is being made. Pretending nothing is wrong and collecting money simply is the wrong way to go about this and once again (it's becoming a trend) BimmerBoost is the only site bringing these issues to the attention of the community.

For the record, a member by the name of @tmo335tt says he has a hardware solution for the misfires that he will likely share with Vishnu (hopefully not for free). Interesting that it isn't Vishnu but the community solving this.

Thanks again to @GeorgiaTech335Coupe for sharing his details, good or bad, as we all learn thanks to honesty and openness. There is more to tuning than just collecting money.

I am 99% sure that tmo335tt found the solution. He has found some physical evidence on his car to back up the theoretical evidence he found. We will know soon enough if it works.

Who sanctions the track NHRA or IHRA?

As far as the track rules, it all depends on the track. Some are lenient, others are not. A lot of tracks are inconsistent within themselves. I constantly see people not wearing helmets who run faster than 14s. OSW thinks my friend's GTR has a roll cage in it, when it clearly doesn't. He runs low 10s. My brother would get kicked out for running an 11.49 in his Mustang. OSW lets me use a non-SNELL helmet. I've had PBIR turn me down for the helmet, but just last week they let me use it. It all really depends. If the track is hurting for $, they'll probably be a little more lenient.

I think they call that "cornering your market" lmao....Strikes me as odd that none of this showed up in house in testing(that anyone was made aware of), kits go out and bam...no dice. I certainly expect to see a full technical description into how/why/confirmed fixes in that order...

Its annoying. Then many of them say stuff like, "if you want to know, go buy the single turbo kit and find out" If there wasnt so much secrecy i would have bought the kit.

Instead, i will do my own single kit. What a joke.

Maybe the Vishnu single boys would be more inclined to 'break ranks' if they had a demonstrated VTT working with COBB / JB4. Anyone willing to mutiny?

If it only affects the MT cars, it sounds like crank walk (fore and aft motion of the crank) which can make the CPS miss counts. Not sure why this would only affect higher power cars though, and the thrust bearing would have to be REALLY sloppy. Not saying it's this at all, just thinking back to my DSM days.

Coils are the first victim when the volumetrics are vastly increased, I wonder if it's just blowing out the spark....even meth distribution could be a factor as well...too busy to read the 12 pages, just tossing in my two centsClick here to enlarge

HOW DARE YOU MENTION METH!? NOTHING BAD CAN COME FROM IT!! YOU WILL BE CHASTISED BY THE MAN THAT HAD WEEKS WORTH OF MISFIRES AND THEN FOUND THE FIX AS SOON AS AN ISSUE WAS MADE PUBLIC IF YOU SAY THAT AGAIN!!

They likely have a fix, it isn't just made up, it's just lame the way he is going about it.

He's probably looking for Vishnu to compensate him. I'm guessing the time, labor, parts, etc., in order to get this "fix" is something he wants to be reimbursed for. So he likely isn't saying anything until his wallet is covered.

        BTW

the rules ARE changing for NHRA tracks for 2013, IIRC 2008 or 2009 cars with limited mods will NOT be required to have roll cages until 9.9.

id have to check specifics, but i did see it posted and referenced

Yup. Was just able to confirm. Look at Page 10 of the PDF: http://www.nhra.com/UserFiles/file/2...Amendments.pdf

"NHRA DRAGS: STREET LEGAL STYLE PRESENTED BY AAA (Page xiv) (5th paragraph)
Additionally requirements and specifications for Street Legal are the same as those for the Summit Racing Series with the following exception: Unaltered 2008 OEM model year and newer production cars running slower than 9.99 and 135 mph do not have to meet the requirements and specifications for the Summit Racing Series except for the following: Convertibles and T-tops must meet Summit Racing Series Roll Bar and Roll Cage requirements, All drivers must meet the Summit Racing Series Helmet and Protective Clothing requirements."

The question will be what qualifies as "unaltered". I'm not so sure an aftermarket turbo system will satisfy the "unaltered" requirement of the amendment. This may just be for the stock low 11 and 10 second cars that are out there.
