• Upcoming X156 GLA45 AMG spotted testing - Mercedes' new 354 horsepower all wheel drive turbocharged dual clutch crossover

Here are spyphotos of the upcoming X156 platform GLA45 AMG. This car will mirror the drivetrain of the upcoming CLA45 AMG, B45 AMG, and A45 AMG. This means all wheel drive, a dual clutch transmission with 7-speeds, and a turbocharged M133 2.0 liter direct injected four-cylinder with an output of 354 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. This car seems to be an answer to a question nobody asked.

It seems that the GLA will compete with the BMW X1 although this AMG version will have no real rival. It's interesting that Mercedes will give the GLA and AMG variant yet leaves the GLK as the only SUV in the lineup without one. Odd, when a high performance version of the Q5 is on the way as well as the Porsche Macan.

If car can transition from what appears to be something ungainly in the spyphotos to something sleek and sexy the US market obsessed with SUV's and crossovers will likely eat this thing up. We will have to wait and see.
