• MBH Motorsports releases downpipes for the 63 AMG cars equipped with the M157 Twin Turbo V8 and claims huge gains

      Here are the new downpipes for the M157 Twin Turbo V8 from MBH Motorsports. MBH partnered with Evotech regarding a tune that compliments their downpipes on the motor. The result is large gains but the graph does not show the peak figure so some slight estimation is necessary. It would appear that with a tune the downpipes are claimed to offer a gain of almost 50 wheel horsepower on top of just a tuned M157 car. That at first impression seems to be somewhat high.


      The torque curve with the downpipes appears to be fairly radically changed well. For whatever reason, the turbos appear to spool slightly later with the downpipes rather than slightly earlier. The shape of the curve is also different from 3000-4500 rpm or so. The torque gains just appear to be huge.

      Pricing has not been released but hopefully we can all get some more dynos of these downpipes on another dyno, possibly a dynojet to better put them in context. Additionally, it would be nice to see the difference of the downpipes make alone without a tune.

        I'm not just a fan. I run MBH products on my car. Are those downpipes for every M157 chasis?

        I believe so, they haven't stated otherwise. They say they have M156 and M278 downpipes so I would guess yes, for every chassis.

        Wow very cool, Thanks for the post. As far as tuning goes on this car. It's pretty much out of my hands. We handed it over to Evotech USA and let them have at it. Then I either get an email with the dyno chart or I grab it off the web once it's posted. When this came out it was news to me as to what the car would show. In this case I had to call the guys over there and ask how to make heads or tails of this chart. So the car was flashed, then dyno'ed. Then down pipes were done and the car reflashed for the down pipes. What I do know is, downpipes alone with nothing else is good for about 15 horsepower. When the tuning is added, thats when the everything comes together to make good power gains. A lot of the time the customers car gets in, gets done, and thats it. These are currently available for CLS and E63 biturbo cars. We have a totally different set up available of the CLS550 and E550 biturbos. I was fortunate enough to have one of my best friends pick up a 550 biturbo that we did the R&D on. He's running downpipes with the Evotech tune. I need to get his car back for some dyno numbers.

        Are those downpipes connected directly to the turbochargers ? Or maybe to that kind of factory downpipe running along the exhaust manifold ?

        Can we get a dyno of downpipes alone?

        Secondly, any tune can be paired with this can't it?

        The M278 set is different, thanks, was wondering.

        Definitely some more but we have no dynos for the M278.
