• Tuned M275 twin turbo V12 W221 S65 AMG beats up on an E60 M5 from a stop and from a roll

      This is a serious mis-match but still fun to see. The S65 AMG with its M275 twin turbo V12 puts out some serious power in stock form and gets really mean with a good tune. A stock E60 M5 and a stock S65 AMG would be a pretty good race but as you see in the video below an aggressive tune on the S65 AMG and it is game over for the M5. From a stop or from a roll it doesn't matter, once 3rd to 4th gear hits the S65 AMG is flat out gone.


      For this to even be interesting the E60 M5 would need a serious tune and exhaust system including headers. The M5 does surprisingly well using launch control in the run from a stop but once into 4th gear the S65 pulls away again. Cool to see how potent that M275 V12 is against what is not a slow car in the M5.

        A stock S65 would still murder a stock M5, when my 135i was tuned I would be even with E60 M5s but still got absolutely destroyed by a stock S65.

        They should be really close, an M5 shouldn't be getting destroyed by this car... They have nearly identical amounts of BHP/ton, nearly same 0-160 km/h and run nearly the same quarter mile. Looking at various videos - it's about 50/50 ratio of which one wins, meaning it's more the driver.

        The SL is very heavy - regardless of the beastly engine.

        Indeed. The race between the W220 S65 and the M6 had the S barely putting a car on it. The S won but, not by a margin shown here.
