    • BenzBoost member hits 607 wheel horsepower tune only with Renntech M157 tune in a 2012 W212 E63 AMG

Excellent results from BenzBoost member xtyper who got his 2012 E63 AMG with the M157 Twin Turbo V8 motor dyno'd after getting a Renntech ECU tune. The results are a whopping 607 wheel horsepower tune only in SAE. This was done on 91 octane California pump fuel mixed with 100 octane race gas for an estimated 95 octane average.

The results are simply incredibly impressive for this motor which is a beast when tuned. Great to see Renntech's own posted dyno's backed up independently, great work. Full review in xtyper's words with dynograph below:

      Xtyper:

So last week I sent my ECU out to Renntech to have it tuned. Everything went very smoothly, and I received it back two days later as planned, along with a couple of BMC Air Filters. Like a kid on Christmas morning, I opened the box and installed the goodies right away. Then I took the car for a spin.

Now, mind you, I've read all the reviews and power results on these M157 tunes, but never in my wildest dreams did I imagine it would have the effect it did. The car felt strong before, but now it feels AMAZING! Stock-like driveability at partial throttle, but at WOT, all hell breaks loose. Mashing the throttle on the freeway at speed even spins the tires loose. This thing is a monster!

To make sure the results I felt on the street could be verified on the dyno, I took the car down to MD Automotive in Westminster to check the power output. Keep in mind this is the same shop used in all the Edmunds.com dyno reviews. It's a typical, run-of-the-mill Dynojet 248, and Mark the owner is a really nice guy.

      Car: 2012 E63 AMG Non-PP
Modifications: BMC Air Filters, Renntech Tune
Fuel: 95 octane mix via blend of Chevron 91 and VP Racing 100
      Ambient Conditions: 75 deg F, 28.79 Baro, 59% Humidity
      Dyno Type: Dynojet 248
      Peak Results (4th gear): 607whp & 710wtq SAE Corrected!!!

Attached below is a picture of the dyno graph printout. Besides amazing peak power, note how smooth the curves are, and how safe the AFR looks.

Needless the say, I couldn't be happier with these results. Much thanks to George and team at Renntech for the great customer service and a top-notch product.

Next up...the Airstrip Attack event hosted by Shift-S3ctor Nov 10-11. I think this car is really going to surprise some people there. Can't wait!

Thanks! And I definitely plan to take it to the strip soon. I think there is a private rental at Famoso Raceway the weekend after the Airstrip event that I will try to attend. Just hope I can slap some Toyo R888's on the stock 19's in time to get some decent traction. I don't want to change the rims and these are the only tires I could find that are available in the appropriate size that offer close to drag radial performance.

I agree, which is ridiculous for a tune only car.

Can't wait to see the results. Traction is going to be your biggest obstacle.

        Good luck and enjoy.

Congratulations on the tune. Excellent numbers on the dyno. Renntech sure has a solid tune for this application. I like how solid both torque and HP curves appear, as they dont contain any negative sloping, which means efficient power delivery on every RPM range. Your A/F looks very pleasing as well.

If your looking for tires. I believe your rear wheels are 19X9.5 with 285/30/19 tires. You can equip the Hoosier's R6 or A6 with a 295/35/19 size. They fit your AMG wheels. They are wider, and they weigh less than any other drag tire for your wheel. They grip very good as well.

I wonder if low 700's hp / high 780' ftlb SAE at the wheels would be enough on pump fuel Click here to enlarge? Or perhaps lowering this power/torque target...

Heh, over 700 on pump is more than enough to satisfy anyone. But if you can do more... Click here to enlarge
