• S85 V10 tune comparison on the same E63 M6: Dinan Stage 2 tune versus Evolve Stage 3 tune

      Dinan does great work on BMW's but enthusiasts often view their products as conservative especially compared to the other offerings available in the aftermarket for BMW's. Case and point, here is a Dinan Stage 2 E63 M6 S85 V10 tune compared to an Evolve Automotive Stage 3 tune. This dyno comparison was done on the same dynojet dyno in SAE correction featuring the same M6 also equipped with aftermarket headers.

      The Dinan Stage 2 puts down 471 wheel horsepower and 351 wheel torque which is very respectable. The Evolve Stage 3 tune improves these numbers to 494 wheel horsepower and 354 wheel torque making for one of the strongest naturally aspirated S85 dynos BimmerBoost has run across. The S85 is not super easy to extract power out of once tuned but 23 wheel horsepower is gained by Evolve on the Dinan tune which is rather impressive.

      In all fairness to Dinan, they do have a Stage 3 tune available and it would be great to see how that compares. Additionally, 471 wheel horsepower is a very strong number and more aggressive than we would normally expect out of Dinan. Evolve pulls close to 500 wheel horsepower however which few have approached or crossed in naturally aspirated form on a dynojet without running dangerously lean.

        You dropped my jaw on that one...454 PF of torque should be 354 PF...I was wondering how on earth Evolve managed to pull an extra 100 PF over the Dinan tune.

        Wow, 13:1 AFR? Is this through both front and rear cats or catless?

        I have to say, that is pretty impressive for the Dinan Stg 2. Those Dinan tunes are usually way too conservative and cost TOO MUCH $$$$ for what you get, but their S85 tune does look very nice. Wish we could see a dyno from a Stage 3 Dinan for better comparison.

        I would think there would only be one set of cats if any considering the numbers.

        I like both graphs. I purchased my first Dinan
        software in 1996. They make very nice products. I
        am starting to get interested in Evolve though. I have
        been aware of them for several years now. They did some great
        tuning to some Porsche 997's in the UK where they are based and I thought at the time they did some serious work.

        I like the software download on the E63. Still love
        the E63 M6 Coupe and the E64 M6 Cabriolet. Was tepmted
        earlier this year on a low mileage E64 M6 6-speed manual and lots of carbon fiber. Was unsure of which software to go with if did pull the trigger on it, but need to consider Evolve if I go that route again. Would have all of the hardware sorted though.
