• F1 2012 - Mercedes AMG GP Italian Grand Prix Race Results: Schumacher and Rosberg finish 6th and 7th respectively

The Mercedes power fizzled out a bit this weekend as two Mercedes powered car retired, The first was Mclaren Mercedes' Jensen Button, who retired from 2nd place with a fuel pump malfunction and Force India's Nico Hulkenburg. Lewis Hamilton dominated the race from the start and looked unbeatable. He took off from pole position and never looked back. With his win, he jumps up to 2nd place in the championship standing, 37 points behind Alonso. The Mercedes AMG F1 team finished 6th and 7th with Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg. At the start of the race Schumacher was able to maintain his position of 4th, but by lap 7 fell to Vettel and Alonso aided by DRS and slipstream. Schumacher was forced to pit a second time with 10 laps remaining and fell to 9th place. being on fresher tires he quickly passed Senna, Kobayashi, and Di Resta to finish right behind Kimi Raikonnen.

Rosberg wasn't so lucky with his start, he was slow off the line a fell down to 11th place. After his second pit stop for hard tires, he quickly set multiple fastest lap that helped him finish behind his teammate in 7th place.

The Red Bull cars fell victims to the heat that saw both drivers retire from the race. Even though Hamilton domniated the race, Sergio Perez in his Ferrari powered Sauber was the star of the race, starting from 12th place, he managed to finish second while overtaking both Ferrari drivers, Massa and Alonso.

      Nico Rosberg:
So Im satisfied with that today, although there may have been potential for more. I had no grip on my option tyres in the first stint, which were the same set that gave me problems in Q3 After the first stop, I had very good pace and was able to set a few fastest race laps and move up the field with some nice overtakes. Its nice to have had a better finish to a race weekend and Im looking forward to more of the same in Singapore in a couple of weeks.

      Michael Schumacher:
It was a fun race today. Although I must admit that, following our performance on Friday, I had secretly hoped we would be able to move up the field. But we had a tricky first stint. After that, everything went really well, we were on the pace and I think we showed a clear upwards trend today. I kind of ran out of laps this afternoon and, if the race had been a bit longer, I'd have been able to battle even further forward. Overall, though, we got everything out of it today. Now we need to keep this trend going - and everybody in the team is working hard on it.

      Ross Brawn:
Both our drivers put in strong, aggressive and controlled performances today. We knew that a one-stop strategy was not feasible for us this afternoon, so we went into the race planning to make two stops and knew the drivers would have to race hard to make it work against other cars who were one-stopping.

The disappointment today was that both drivers really struggled on their first set of tyres - perhaps because of how we used them in qualifying, running more than one timed lap in Q3, or perhaps another factor, which is something we will have to analyse. We lost all our time in this phase of the race but, thereafter, the performance of both cars looked good.

Nico's fastest lap shows that our level of performance today was reasonable and both he and Michael were consistently among the fastest in the second half of the race. Sixth and seventh places are far from perfect but we can be positive about an exciting race, running the right strategy for our current situation and two great drives from Michael and Nico"

      Norbert Haug:
"We didn't have great pace in the opening stint, running the option tyres we had used in qualifying like everybody in the top ten, but it looked much better after the first stops
Congratulations to Lewis and McLaren Mercedes on three wins in a row - two for Lewis, one for Jenson. Our Mercedes engine has taken six wins from 13 races this season, including one for our Silver Arrows team in China. After scoring the most points of any engine in 2009, 2010 and 2011, this confirms the Mercedes V8 as the most successful power plant so far in 2012 as well.

Once again, I think Mercedes botched their driver's strategies. They did the same thing in Spa and waited too long to bring their drivers in for their last set of tires. If they brought their drivers in earlier, I think they could have had a chance at passing the Ferraris in the end. One more straight and Schumi would have passed Kimi.

Perez was amazing and his team had the perfect strategy for him and it played out great.

Vettel was ordered to inmediately stop the car to preserve the engine after a mechanical failure, so he did.
2 laps later Webber made a mistake accelerating out of the Ascari chicane, spinning but managed to keep it out of the wall. He severely flatspotted all his tires while doing so, and easing up to the pits he was already 13th or 14th, so with just a few laps to go he parked the car in the pitbox.

Besides the dissapoinment of a broken fuel pump for Button's Mc Laren (yes, it happens to them too)which prevented a 1-2 finish, it was an exiting race.
This time Perez his ability to preserve his tires really payed off.
He started on the harder tire, and managed to stay out with them until lap 23. Then he preserved them until the last 10 laps and was then able to accelerate, lapping 2 seconds faster then almost everybody in front of him, catching and overtaking everyone exepr Lewis, who was too far ahead. Impressive.

Perez really cemented his future with his finish. If Hamilton does leave Mclaren, I don't see it happening but he could go there. I don't think he would go to Ferrari and play second fiddle to Alonso.

Thanks for the recap. Another great race with tons of passing. Shows how hard Monza is on these cars. Fantastic showing by Perez as previously mentioned.

There was talk Lewis going to Mercedes for a ridiculous amount of money, but nothing definitive yet.

yup its up this year. I don't see him giving up his seat with a top team to go and help build Mercedes. He wants another championship and he won't get that with the way Merc is being handled. The uncertainty surrounding the team doesn't help either.

Damn. That's really tough luck for Red Bull. I hope they can make it up next race... hurts Vettel for his three-peat Click here to enlarge

It was also bad luck for Button and Webber. As far as title aspirations go Button was hurt the most, losing a sure 18 points there.
On this very high speed circuit (they average! 250 km/h at Monza) we've seen the most mechanical DNFs of all races sofar this year.

Thanks man. I'm glad I can be part of this forum. I wish I could contribute more, but I barely have enough "me" time with work, school, and a very hormonal pregnant wife.
