    • Vishnu Tuning E92 335i with FFTEC N54 single turbo hardware + raised boost finally runs a 10 second 1/4 mile pass, underwhelming?

Vishnu Tuning finally managed to eek out a 10 second pass in their single turbo E92 335i that they were once touting would be in the 9's. After multiple unsuccessful attempts (with driver errors) from Vishnu owner Shiv Pathak he was able to get a high 10 second slip by raising the boost according to his data log and shifting cleanly. Details are scarce as Vishnu did not provide information on the youtube video upload and there also is no exterior view to show the slip actually correlates to the run shown in the video.

We will give the benefit of the doubt here but with all secrecy and the multiple attempts to get to this point the performance is simply underwhelming for the time and money investment. The car is said to have run 10.8@131. It recently was dyno'd at 627 wheel horsepower by Insideline so these horses are not translating well to the ground. This single turbo offers considerable lag and the top end pull for the sacrifice simply is not there especially compared to existing solutions such as the Rob Beck twin turbo upgrade which offers far greater spool and performance only a few miles per off through the traps but with far greater driveability.

The previous record was 11.10@127.21 with 19 psi of boost on the RB turbos. These turbos are a much more affordable option that also currently is available. Vishnu claims 23.5 psi of boost for this 10.8@131 mph run. Is it worth the minor top end benefit for the estimated $8500+ plus install? We do not think so and considering the way Vishnu hyped this the results are very underwhelming. The low end torque sacrifice is not being justified with a large top end gain.

We wish Vishnu luck in the future but for now this is still an experiment and work in progress that is tough to buy both figuratively and literally. There are more affordable options that work better for daily driven N54 vehicles that offer 97% of the performance in practice (as in not just a dyno queen) with less compromises. Not to mention for users to repeat what Vishnu has done here with their own single turbo it will likely be far more difficult as they will not have the option of risking their engine with higher boost and timing advances simply to try to eek out a tenth to squeeze past what already exists and get into the 10's. It may be a record, but it certainly is not impressive considering where the bar was already set with far less horsepower and much more affordable tuning and hardware options.

Maybe his tranny is slipping? Stock GTRs should get mopped by a single turbo. On paper at least.

High HP n54s will be much like a 700 hp Supra that can't get the power down and is very inconsistent but once rolling it will be hard to beat. On street tires I often ran better times with 430 whp than I could at 660 whp, (needed DR's). I ran a single setup on a stock block trouble free for 6 years and would consider going single on the N54 platform once we see how they hold up longer term and the price comes down a bit.

Its great to see some real progress.

Lol never compare an N54 to a GTR VQ motor... sofry but its just not the same class...

There was no issue for AT guys running rbs telling the truth ... But i guess for sigle turbo which was stated "we are keeping torque low" to avoid AT issue did not actually reflect reality.

Think that you bought a kit for 10k (probably less for promo) naively thinking and believing the marketing bullcrap and than realizing when installed your AT is just telling to f..ck off ...
Plus the please dont post on any forum crap ..
Just typical shady business and marketing.
If my AT crapped out at 20 psi crappy turbos just think about a single.... Lol

Shiv posted 6AT dyno numbers though which were pretty pathetic at the price point, unfortunately he can't extend the 6AT to 7200 RPMs like he promised (I already knew he couldn't do it), and even real-world, nobody can shift the 6MT at 7200 RPMs either without hitting the limiter and ruining the run.

Unless I see otherwise, IMHO, RBs are the better deal on the 6AT. You simply can't take advantage of the power they make top end with the 6AT's 6800 RPM upshift point. Shiv also tapers boost off at 6500 RPM on the 6AT which makes things even worse.

Well the limit on at cars is in the tcu which he cant flash. Actually i was surprised he did not say he was able to do that knowing the character.
The rpm limit in the ecu for at is 7500 rpm which can only be reached if you keep the peddle pushed all the way

Also, I don't think FBIS is having any problems. He's leaking out information slowly, and probably taking his sweet time enjoying the car.

I don't think he forgot just that he made a typo typing CupertinoSteve twice instead of your name.

This might be the first platform I've been where you make a great breakthrough such as the Single turbo producing 600 rwhp and most if not all owners are quite about it and nobody posting spirited driving or drag race time slips. I'm sure there must be a good reason behind it, but nonetheless it's pretty suspicious. If there are trans failures why not just admit it. It's a common rule when you mod you break more $#@! this is nothing new.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I haven't had any problems. There are still only about 10 singles in existence, most of them located in the Bay Area. I don't know how much information you expect these few car owners to give, but I for one don't have the time or desire to go to a drag strip. I'll be going to Laguna Seca in early Nov, but that won't yield any definitive power related numbers.
