• Vishnu Tuning E92 335i with FFTEC N54 single turbo hardware + raised boost finally runs a 10 second 1/4 mile pass, underwhelming?

Vishnu Tuning finally managed to eek out a 10 second pass in their single turbo E92 335i that they were once touting would be in the 9's. After multiple unsuccessful attempts (with driver errors) from Vishnu owner Shiv Pathak he was able to get a high 10 second slip by raising the boost according to his data log and shifting cleanly. Details are scarce as Vishnu did not provide information on the youtube video upload and there also is no exterior view to show the slip actually correlates to the run shown in the video.

We will give the benefit of the doubt here but with all secrecy and the multiple attempts to get to this point the performance is simply underwhelming for the time and money investment. The car is said to have run 10.8@131. It recently was dyno'd at 627 wheel horsepower by Insideline so these horses are not translating well to the ground. This single turbo offers considerable lag and the top end pull for the sacrifice simply is not there especially compared to existing solutions such as the Rob Beck twin turbo upgrade which offers far greater spool and performance only a few miles per off through the traps but with far greater driveability.

The previous record was 11.10@127.21 with 19 psi of boost on the RB turbos. These turbos are a much more affordable option that also currently is available. Vishnu claims 23.5 psi of boost for this 10.8@131 mph run. Is it worth the minor top end benefit for the estimated $8500+ plus install? We do not think so and considering the way Vishnu hyped this the results are very underwhelming. The low end torque sacrifice is not being justified with a large top end gain.

We wish Vishnu luck in the future but for now this is still an experiment and work in progress that is tough to buy both figuratively and literally. There are more affordable options that work better for daily driven N54 vehicles that offer 97% of the performance in practice (as in not just a dyno queen) with less compromises. Not to mention for users to repeat what Vishnu has done here with their own single turbo it will likely be far more difficult as they will not have the option of risking their engine with higher boost and timing advances simply to try to eek out a tenth to squeeze past what already exists and get into the 10's. It may be a record, but it certainly is not impressive considering where the bar was already set with far less horsepower and much more affordable tuning and hardware options.

i think its funny all the kit owners ran their mouths about how much they will run the cars as soon as they get them, and not a single one has posted anything about it..

Excuse me....I politely challenged Shivs nonsense about no suspension mods required for 600whp+ & got quickly banned from Shiveland aka E90Post. It is the only site I have ever been banned from since I have been on the net going back to the last century. You can say what you want here & only the other posters will shut you down not the site owner.

The way that I understood it initially is that Shiv was offering a turn key 10 second car package. When I asked what that meant and pointed out the obvious about tranny type, suspension mods and fuel enhancement... I never really received an answer. I even said that wording it in that manner is stupid... and told him to worry about traps more than anything. I said that to get these cars to run 10s will take a lot of skill and persistance... I have yet to be proved wrong.

Speaking of never producing any results, what happened to that Florida guy with ASR turbos who was going to dyno "next Friday" around a year or two ago?

haha.. that was me Click here to enlarge and i changed my plans to reduce/eliminate weather bias, among other things/complications. i posted about this before, but i will dyno the stage1 setup (gen 1, only oil cooled) i have now against my stock turbo/same FBO/meth set-up. once done, we will drive over to ASR (5 mins away) wait for the car to cool with carpet driers or w/e, break down the hot side, upgrade to stage 2, street tune it, then re-dyno, all hopefully on the same day if not, the next. now when this will be? all depends on ASR, and when they are ready to release the 'beta' stage2 wheels and new gen2 water/oil cooled chra (alpha testing happens on their 1-series).

indeed i could, the car runs beautifully. problem lies in myself really, i'm either busy or just lazy. i like to be efficient and this seems most efficient and will be most accurate with respect to the delta. Miami weather is $#@!ing crazy in the summer Terry, don't know how it is in Cali.

nope, no info, the guys that told me their trans is screwed up, posted saying its not, but still offer no data or video's of the master of awesomeness turnkey gtr raping monster..as well as the cool guys with MT's that never had any issue.

plus the half-dozen "other" cars coming in for the upgrade, that noone knows or seen..

Being the first to do something noteworthy even if it isn't exactly what was expected doesn't make it a flop.

Did we expect more? Yes. Still the first into the 10's even if it is barely and with compromises.

I have a feeling that rear subframe/suspension issues are hindering all-out grip. These cars were meant for turns, not straight line acceleration. All those rubber joints in the rear - 20 joints, 10 per side, only 2 are balljoints, the rest are rubber bushings. There is a LOT of toe-in under acceleration that needs to be addressed.

Otherwise the E9x platform will probably never be a 1/4 mile beast.

I'm not quite so certain of that.

The E9X lends itself to drag racing much better than say the E46. The rear end on the M3 is pretty darn stout and the car runs 11's with bolt on's. They can do well, the guy was hitting 1.5X 60 foots. What is holding him back isn't the launch.

Interesting topic on the toe flex during acceleration. I had my subframe out and noticed that the only non-reinforced section of the whole rear is the toe links. I may weld in some gussets while its out.

Megan racing toe arms could help in keeping the toe in check.

There are so many other rubber joints that affect toe, too, not just the toe control links. They will help, definitely, but much of the flex comes from the forward thrust rods (2 per side, 2 joints per link, 8 rubber bushings total). Half of the E9x M3 joints are balljoints. They eliminate more of the toe flex. Unfortunately not all the M3 arms fit the non-Ms. Custom balljoints or spherical bearings are needed in more locations. That will help drastically. I was able to do a GA 328i rear subframe with E36/E46 balljoints (modified to fit) in all but 2 joints. Gets extremely time consuming and expensive, but worth it for pro racing.

Turner Motor Sports does a great job building track ready BMW's and have a wide range of bushings solid and Delrin.
