    • Vishnu Tuning E92 335i with FFTEC N54 single turbo hardware + raised boost finally runs a 10 second 1/4 mile pass, underwhelming?

Vishnu Tuning finally managed to eek out a 10 second pass in their single turbo E92 335i that they were once touting would be in the 9's. After multiple unsuccessful attempts (with driver errors) from Vishnu owner Shiv Pathak he was able to get a high 10 second slip by raising the boost according to his data log and shifting cleanly. Details are scarce as Vishnu did not provide information on the youtube video upload and there also is no exterior view to show the slip actually correlates to the run shown in the video.

We will give the benefit of the doubt here but with all secrecy and the multiple attempts to get to this point the performance is simply underwhelming for the time and money investment. The car is said to have run 10.8@131. It recently was dyno'd at 627 wheel horsepower by Insideline so these horses are not translating well to the ground. This single turbo offers considerable lag and the top end pull for the sacrifice simply is not there especially compared to existing solutions such as the Rob Beck twin turbo upgrade which offers far greater spool and performance only a few miles per off through the traps but with far greater driveability.

The previous record was 11.10@127.21 with 19 psi of boost on the RB turbos. These turbos are a much more affordable option that also currently is available. Vishnu claims 23.5 psi of boost for this 10.8@131 mph run. Is it worth the minor top end benefit for the estimated $8500+ plus install? We do not think so and considering the way Vishnu hyped this the results are very underwhelming. The low end torque sacrifice is not being justified with a large top end gain.

We wish Vishnu luck in the future but for now this is still an experiment and work in progress that is tough to buy both figuratively and literally. There are more affordable options that work better for daily driven N54 vehicles that offer 97% of the performance in practice (as in not just a dyno queen) with less compromises. Not to mention for users to repeat what Vishnu has done here with their own single turbo it will likely be far more difficult as they will not have the option of risking their engine with higher boost and timing advances simply to try to eek out a tenth to squeeze past what already exists and get into the 10's. It may be a record, but it certainly is not impressive considering where the bar was already set with far less horsepower and much more affordable tuning and hardware options.

You also "heard" and posted here on bimmerboost that the engine in my car recently failed. Only later to admit that you just made that up. Since this new claim is more of the same, i suggest just cutting to the chase and just admit that this is a lie as well. Or at least give names, pics, info, etc,. But that clearly is not happening. Can you please tell your 6AT customers to go to the drag strip already? I'm sure you can lend them your old drag setup since you don't use it anymore. Click here to enlarge

They will get there, the AT's I would think are still being worked on as we have seen basically nothing from them. It will come...

Oh just let LM do his thing. If you try to respond to all his attempts at spreading rumors or just trying to start something... you'll be very busy.

Agree. I don't think I've seen anyone try so hard to start rumors.

Why don't they post on the forums then? Single turbos are new on this platform and early adopters should expect to be guinea pigs.

Well if they're sending you info knowing you're going to post it. Why don't you post all the info?

Instead of playing the "I know something that you guys don't" game, just give us the info. Hiding it just makes it seem like a lie and apparently you already have a reputation as being "the boy who cried wolf."

Id rather Shiv comment on it, as it should be. Normally it takes a leak for any less than stellar progress info to come out from him, so, ill let him discuss it.

Right about now, since word got out, he is/should be writing his 2 page thesis on what happened, and how he already overcame it, but it wasnt really anyones fault. which its not, we expect it..

Do you really think the AT can hold that "power" for long? Click here to enlarge

Wouldn't be suprised. I don't know what's up with all the secrecy though. I'd imagine if one went out we would hear about it.

There are only so many cars running AT, just ping them all...

No offense LM, I take things you say with a grain of salt Click here to enlarge

I don't see what the big deal is if something broke. If a limitation is found it should be made known. We already knew what this limitation was when the the autos were slipping pretty quickly on nitrous...

You add 3x over stock output and expect the car to hold together on stock transmission and block? I personally think it's a modern miracle that all these cars running 400-500 whp (stock turbo or RB turbo cars) and holding up for a relatively long time.

hey, its just what i heard.. and not admissable in a court of law.. im sure we will see some progress, either if the owner comes forward now, or waits until his trans is rebuilt.. but there is an undeniable reason why no AT information is out there

So now to add to the expense... you need a built tranny by level 10. In which case the suspension still probably wont let u run 10s easily. I think I said a long time ago that this car couldnt be a turn key 10 second car.

I agree with you that something breaking is not a big deal when pushing a platform. However, I think I recall reading a post where Shiv@vishnu said that torque output was intentionally limited on these single turbo cars to be easier on the auto transmissions? I could see why he would not want to see a report of an auto transmission failing coming to light if he was selling that as the end-all solution. However, if I was the customer and my car broke down, I would let people know about it. $#@! happens when you exceed the design specifications of what parts can handle. Only way I would not would be if someone who wanted the info kept quiet paid for a new transmission in return (can't see why that would happen, though).

Let's see what Shiv has told everyone when I questioned him:

Me: You can't raise the rev limit to 7200 RPM like you can on a 6MT thus you will be down on peak power
Shiv: "I have tricks to prevent 6AT failures and the 6AT is holding up beautifully"
Laguna Seca Blue: Shiv said he has a fix! You are wrong

Then again, we can't prove the 6ATs have failed yet until we have concrete evidence.
