      We are still having trouble adjusting to the idea of an M4 instead of an M3 coupe. It just does not feel natural with an M3 coupe being the first M3 ever and existing before an M3 sedan ever did. Regardless, the F82 is coming and until we get some concrete styling details there are going to be renderings and speculation. These renderings come courtesy of iacoski and although these give us somewhat of an idea we are not big fans of these renderings for several reasons.

      The 4 Series will have to differentiate itself from the 3 Series in order to justify the naming convention. These renderings basically look like an F30 turned into a coupe. We think BMW will differentiate the styling a bit more than that. Also, the fender vent just does not look clean and appears ungainly and tacked on. Not this designers best work but let the speculation on the F82 M4 continue.

        I really don't get this 4-Series name crap. And also these F80 or F82 code names. Do normal 3-series and M3 use different chassis? No, so no point in F80 or F82 code name. This was a $#@!ty rumor which was spread by bimmerpost, and for an unknown reason everyone seems to take it as a proven fact.

        It sounds real dumb; you nailed it. An M3 is an M3 regardless of the number of doors it has. And doesn't just the name, "M3" bring forth thoughts about the proud heritage of this vehicle to this point??

        But "M4"; uh uh...

        I think they should name the coupes the 3 series and the sedans the 4 series. That would make m3 and m4 make sense to me. But it is probably too late for that.

        I was thinking the same thing. That would make it a lot easier to explain to people, too. M3 = 2 door, like the original; M4 = 4 door.

        It makes no sense to ditch the convention started by the original. Where is their heritage and sense of history?

        BMW throwing it all in the fire. I want to smack someone on their board of directors.

        the Fxx for chassis denominations makes no sense to begin with. lets start with that. as far as i can find it dont stand for anything whereas the Exx did.
        second, sorena is right. starting with the e9x we started gettting different for the SAME chassis.

        i think we need to let go of what used to be consistant practice at bmw, expecially since bmw already has... hell, 328, 335 last two digits no longer dictates displacement anymore with all these factory turbo cars! its a new era i suppose.

        No its not an M3, its an M4, which is exactly one better!
        Its good they are getting away from M3 Coupe name, too many purists would be telling us (no matter how good the car is) how its not a real M3 Coupe anyways.

        If anything, the 4 series and M4 naming is the ONLY thing BMW has done recently that makes any sense. 5 series has always been a sedan and its coupe version was the 6 series. The 7 series was a sedan and its (short lived) coupe was the 8 series. X1, X3 and X5 are kind of like sedan SUVs and the X6 is the "coupe." Everywhere in BMW's lineup, odd numbers are for sedans and even numbers are for coupes.

        They're actually making the lineup make more sense by renaming the 1 and 3 series coupes to the 2 and 4 series and as everyone working at M loves to remind us, M stands for no dogmas so I have no problem with the renaming of the M3 coupe as the M4. There is no room for tradition when the new is superior to the old, I would rather have a more logical naming scheme even if it means some mouth-breathing douches at the local meets will be confused by it.

        Was referring to those who strongly oppose BMW's deviation from a high revving NA motor. Hence 'not a real M3' in their minds. I, for one, welcome the turbocharged M4. These renderings look great!

        Because the engine changes this justifies adding an m4? The m3 will still exist.

        Nobody was confused by the 3 sedan and coupe before. This is simply to force in more variations like 4 door coupes and GT's.
