Formula 1 2012 - Bahrain Grand Prix Results

Kimi is officially back. Wonder if he will move back to a top tier team in the offseason, maybe take Schumi's seat. I personally would like to see him back at McLaren.

Raikkonen is probably the driver with the best raw speed of all drivers right now. I love his no nonsense approach to F1 and his ability to go fast in every car he drives.
If his tires would not have given up in China he would have finished in 2nd place there too.
And Lotus Renault is no backseat team.
They have resources, and knowledge to build a world champion car.
With Button and Raikkonen as my favorite drivers this year promisses to be a good one

one dead person in Bahrain protest against holding the Bahrain GP so far BTW.

Died saturday already.
Protesters spooked some members of the Force India team on friday by trowing a Molotov cocktail near their car when travelling to the circuit.
2 of them left the country, and FI did not participate in the 2nd session of the free practice because they wanted to be in their hotel before sundown.
Only GP2 needs to stay there for another week, for they have a second race there this saturday.
Everybody else packed their stuff and left allready.
Nothing much happened.
Only 1 super annoying thing.
ANONYMOUS, the hacking protesters, thought it was a good idea to DDoS the Formula1 site on saturday.
The site had to take precautions, and thus there was no live timing available on sunday.
That was like watching F1 in the dark ages

The GP went well and it was one of the best races I have worked in for a long time especially as I was the STARTER

I'll post pics soon, Just have to go through the 18gb worth of pics.

The best thing about the whole GP was walking into the vending area and seeing people from everywhere and all sides and their kids having a great time. Stands had people in them from all over and I think it was great to see everyone getting along for a change. Even within us Motorsport Marshals it was a beautiful feeling to see everyone hugging each other and greeting each other and working together.

It was also awesome so see KIMI in action. Great guy

David where did you get the text from?

The Bahrain GP took place as planned even with all the turmoil (which our members who have visited and are from Bahrain say was generated by the media) that was reported and hyped up everywhere. Sebastian Vettel won the race and Lotus-Rentault had a nice finish with both drivers on the podium. Mercedes-Petronas did not do poorly as both Rosberg and Schumacher scored points which is definitely a positive. Rosberg was faster than Schumacher though which seems to be the established trend. The next race is in Spain, May 13.

Well, Mercedes dropped the ball big time on Schumacher. First of all in qualifying, they guestimated wrongly in not letting him get another go in the first stint, although he had made a small mistake in his best lap. All midfield teams do a qualifying time on the softer tire in Q1, so they get into Q2. Ferrari started this, and all midfield teams do this now. MS set his time on the harder tire, and it was not good enough.
So his grid position was 18 to start with. Then Mercedes decided he needed a gearbox change, which set him another 5 places back on the starting grid. Starting from 23rd place, a 10th place finish (thanks to Button dropping out on the penultimate lap) is not that bad.

I did not know all of this and that is all very important but Rosberg's laptimes were faster weren't they?

Yes, but he had more trackspace and was quite a lot faster then Paul di Resta. After he overtook him he had nobody in front. The gap to Webber was 20+ seconds.
Schumacher was in constant battle with Perez, Hulkenberg and Kobayashi in his last stint (having battled his way through the entire field) which he managed to overtake before the finish.
He did allright considdering the pace of the Mercedes in the hot weather.
