• New Porsche Boxster (981) laps the Nurburgring in under 8 minutes with a 7:58

The new Boxster certainly is impressive, inside and out. Everyone has been commenting mostly on the design but with a sub 8 minute run we can now discuss the incredible performance as well. The performance increase on the Nurburgring for the new Boxster is substantial gaining 12 seconds on the previous generation 987 Boxster despite only having 5 more horses. Incredible? Absolutely, especially considering this time is only 18 seconds off the new (and much more powerful) 991 Porsche 911 Carrera S.

Without a doubt Porsche is king at the moment. They are producing cars with such great chassis/transmission combos that even with lower powered engines can decimate much more powerful vehicles around tracks.

This is what BMW should be doing - instead of just adding turbos... This is a cool car, I like the loops on the door (the last boxster - RS?) - this is an awesome car if a 2 seater is called for.

My point exactly and this is why the F10 M5 is not nearly as impressive as it could or should be.

        Hello Members,

Mine 981 (315) is on a boat and headed to Denver. Total $80. Stick. Boat only goes as far as Houston. I would like to hop it up a bit. The posts on TPC Racing (although they claim not to have worked out 981s yet [2013 and 2014] scares me, despite Turbo is great at 5000 feet and above. The guy who bought the Turbo setup sounds a bit emotional. Another vendor Fabspeed has an entire exhaust system including headers. (20 more hp.)

Of all the "modifiers" who is the best and the smartest. I will drive there and stay in a hotel anywhere in the lower 48. I will also ask them to guarantee reliability first, additional power second. It may be a little soon to hop up a 2014 Boxter S and I can wait for smart guys to figure things out. I am not worried about my warranty. Any comments?

        Welcome! Congrats btw. No PDK?

There have been issues with the TPC turbo setup on the direct injected motors: http://www.porscheboost.com/content....-TPC-Turbo-Kit

No PDK. TPC advised against it if I wanted to go the Turbo Route.
Besides which I am 64 and like Jay Leno, who has more sports cars than me, I prefer a stick, even if it will kick my ass, all other things being equal. I drove a PDK at the dealership. cz

I think TPC has some things to figure out with the turbo. I'm not sure if you are aware of this but you can easily make the motor into a 3.8 liter with an overbore like the Carrera S and have that level of horsepower...
