      Well just as the N20 powered 328i is right on the E36 M3's heels the N55 335i is right on the E46 M3's heels. Motortrend hit 13.3@103.9 in the 1/4 mile which certainly is respectable. It does not really offer much of anything on the previous N54 powered 335's and is not as good of a tuner platform right now but hopefully that changes. BMW continues to rate the motor at 300 horsepower in the F30 so the underrating trend continues.

        The latest Car & Driver magazine tests the 335i as well, it's a 6 speed manual however so the acceleration #'s are a bit different. With the 6 speed C&D got 5.3 0-60, and a quarter mile of 13.8 @103. I don't read Motor Trend any more, but it was always my opinion that their acceleration #'s were a bit conservative (slower) compared to other mags. That being said, Motor Trend's #'s might be conservative on the 335i they tested, perhaps the car in auto trim is capable of being a few tenths faster.

        I thought BMW hit the ball out of the park with the E90 series inside and out. The interior especially of this latest 3 series is taking some time for me to get used to.

        Same times as previous gen E9xs for the 335s then. I'd expect the auto to be slightly faster than the stick depending on how each is driven and also because the stick undoubtedly must have had the clutch delay valve in it. Even with valve removed, the autos are always tough to catch.

        ET is all about 60ft and the auto if brake boosted must have killed the stick with a CDV I'd guess.

        Overall my '11 e90 N55 6AT feels at least as fast as my 08 6MT when stock but modded is a different story. Click here to enlarge

        It seems like just with the N54 the auto is the superior straightline option despite the loss hit.

        Exactly. I just don't see how you can beat that car in a manual when it is brake boosting at the line.

        MT and most other magazines abuse AT by brake torquing them just like this goofball in the video. Not very informative for normal street use.
