The Corvette on the other hand still has a pushrod V8 with port injection and a good old manual transmission. More grunt and brute force than technological savvy. Hey, it's also almost half the the price though. Head 2 Head says the Vette feels like it is from another century with a slow transmisison, audible body flex, and horribly outdated navigation. Why is a guy with a British accent reviewing an American icon if he doesn't get what the Vette is about?
We do not really learn much of anything new from this episode and comparison. Ok, we get the Corvette is not as polished. Ok, we get the 991 is mildly upgraded and a bit more refined. The reviewer seems to feel the 911 is a little too detached compared to how it used to be. The Corvette in this respect is truer to its roots and seemingly more exciting. It is also nice to see the PDK embraced and stated to be superior to the manual, which, in every way except for one it is.
The reviewer picks the 911 but not for the right reasons. How can he claim the 991 is the best 911 ever if the steering does not have the same level of feedback as previous models? Since when is being more composed being more exciting? Sometimes the girl in the top and short-skirt with the smeared make-up taking shots instead of the one with perfectly styled hair analyzing her Chardonnay while wearing her pantsuit is the girl that is more fun to ride. Just not what you want for every day. That is the main difference here as both deliver in their own fashion. The 911 is most definitely not twice the sports car and that is something that should leave Corvette fans smiling. The 911 is worth the premium however, and that should put a smile on 991 owner's faces as well.
