    • The new 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S (991) PDK using launch control and accelerating from 0 to 313 km/h

We know the new 991 Carrera S is fast. We also know it is faster with the PDK than with the manual. If you need help being convinced of this the video below should provide plenty of evidence. The 991 Carrera S is launched using the launch control feature which revs the car up to about 6300 rpm and then it just slingshots away with minimal wheelspin. Absolutely incredible the way it was it takes off and bangs through the gears in rapid succession all the way up to 313 km/h. It's fast, very fast.

The manual isn't really all that fast but the PDK makes a huge difference: http://www.porscheboost.com/content.php?1873-2012-Porsche-911-(991)-Carrera-S-test-numbers-from-Insideline-1-4-mile-in-12.7-113

I definitely think it has soul.
Thanks....it's also very light. But in comparison, it has almost identical 1/4 mile time as my Black Series. The Turbo and RS versions are going to be bad ass. And if it has a soul, I sure didn't hear it Click here to enlarge

It is light. The Black Series makes more power of course but this thing sure does a lot with less displacement, power, torque, etc. It's impressive.

Not to mention the fact that it MUCH harder to extract the maximum out of this car than just about anything else on the road. What are the stats on thing anyway ?? Weight, hp, 0-60, 1/4 mile etc ? I'm amazed it's so much faster than the previous 997.
I am curious why you say it has no soul and is hard to extract the maximum out of this car... What makes it so different than say a high revving NA engine (s2000 or something like that)? Honestly am curious.

Wonder why they didn't include the trap speed?

Every since the dialed most of the snap oversteer out of the 911 it became pretty mundane to drive unless you had the skill to take it to the limit. Each iteration since the 930 has become more an more docile and with the introduction of AWD even moreso...yet, inherently a car with the engine hanging behind the rear axle is extremely difficult to take to the limit. The weight distribution and subsequent handling characteristics make it very hard to extract 10/10th's out of. Not to mention every water cooled Porsche since the 993 sounds like complete crap in stock form.

They had to make it more docile to make it more appealing to the masses. There are still the performance models that when traction control is switched off can still bite you in the ass.

I agree 100% and they will even bite you in the ass with TC on - I know all too well. There is only so much opposite braking the car can do before momentum takes over and you are in the wall. It's a damn fine car no doubt. I'm pretty sure the 991 RS models will bring me back to Porsche. We shall see.

Yep, I have that mag. Putting it up as the article for PorscheBoost today.
