      This comes hot on the heels of the leaked out M550d horsepower figures. BMW released a teaser video showing an X6 "M" version with all the good details specifically blocked out. It sure looks to us like this is the X6 M550d or X6 M50d whatever the name will end up being. Just like the 5 series with the triple turbo diesel expect 381 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. This actually makes a heck of a lot more sense if going for "efficient dynamics" than the X6M ever did and is a very exciting development. We just hope it comes to the USA, fingers crossed.

        This makes no sense at all.
        What happened with M cars needing to be high rev?
        Diesels sure as hell will not rev high ever.

        Allow me to explain.

        BMW switched to turbos for efficiency reasons. If they are all about efficiency, why didn't they look at diesels first for their big SUV's? These are 5300 pound cars after all that should still be able to tow and offer utility. A diesel makes all the sense in the world for this vehicle. They decided to call it an M, not me, but I think this makes far more sense than the X6 M ever did.

        Tell me again why you think the n54 in a 1M does not make sense?
        Because you are contradicting yourself here with this diesel argument.

        I did not mention the 1M, this is an SUV. This motor makes more sense especially when trying for MPG and power. I don't see the contradiction.

        A low rev engine in a M car, that was one of your main objections against the 1M.
        IMHO a diesel engine by caracteristics has no place in any M car.
        This is more Audi Le Mans thinking by BMW...

        Yes, but this is an SUV. A Diesel motor makes all the sense in the world whether they badge it as M or not. They went to turbos for better MPG, why didn't they look at a diesel in the first place?

        It will be an E71 X6 diesel that is tweaked by M with an M Sport Package with a tri-turbo v8 engine? That may be really cool. With all that BMW has learned from it's world class diesel engines they will aplly peroformance to it.BMW M propsed this as a business case to the board of directors, and M did their due diligence and then got approval. The M division needs to make a profit and this is a new revenue stream.

        I think it will be the same 6 cylinder triple turbo we already have some details on.

        Too bad diesel fuel prices are where they are at.

        Makes since overseas. Petrol is very expensive over there.

        IMHO there should not be M suv's but a diesel certainly matches an SUV's character I think.
        Well Sticky got this right, a traditional high revving engine makes no sense in a SUV/Pick-up/Truck. A diesel is perfect for those veicles, tons of tq down low... And for MPGs it is the only currently working solution for heavy cars.

        This isnt nothing but a market scheme for diesel lovers/enviornmentalists to feel like they own a M car without going against their grain. M brand, marque, name, anything else M used to be has become pathetic

        Amigos Ive read some of the whining about DIESELS, I have a 335d and it has an ECU flash from RENNtech and trust me it will keep up with almost everything out there, Yes, I used to be be a gasser and believed DIESELS were not trendy. NOW that I own one I am completely overwhelmed by them. SO BMW is going the AUDI route, hello haven't they won The Lemans for close to 10 years with a DIESEL, come on guys accept the true facts DIESEL is here to stayClick here to enlarge. Using the M logo for everything is somewhat annoying but, if it is to market a more effective vehicle so be it. I will be posting my dyno runs after this next Thursday and you will see my potential. I gave the General Service Manager my keys to drive my car, I drove with him a couple of miles and ALL he had in his face was a grin and ALL he would was Holy $#@!!!Click here to enlarge and BTW Im getting over 26 mpg

        I'm glad personally they are doing more with diesels. They should have to begin with.

        Just note, that the 335d with a RT tune, WILL beat a E46 M3 w/ a tune+intake+header+exhaust in straight line highway run =)
