    • DCT Build Part XII - Build complete, pictures of final assembly, transmission cooler, and Viton seals

Well, this has been a rather lengthy road to completion but the transmission is basically complete. The car was dropped off by SSP last month to Gintani who should have the motor in by the end of this week. The problem is SSP mounted their trans cooler in the location the heat exchanger for the supercharger needs to go so SSP will need to come to Gintani's facility to re-run their lines as the cooler will need to go in a different location. What took so long for this update? Well, we have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for SSP to send us details on the Viton seals that required 3 redesigns but never received the information on why these seals are superior to the stock units.

So, I decided to do my own research and here is what I came up with. These are the stock BMW seals used in the DCT. What is wrong with them exactly? We do not know other than they apparently are not up to the task:

Here are the Viton seals which delayed the project by 3 months. Viton is a synthetic rubber used for seals, O-rings, things of that sort. Viton was likely used as it is less susceptible to decay and already used in BMW applications such as in VANOS. Viton has much higher temperature and chemical resistance characteristics than the stock seals. Here is what they look like:

This is the DCT cooler that was mounted by SSP up front. This needs to be moved somewhere else as the supercharger heat exchanger will need to go there. This means SSP will need to come out and run their lines again checking all their fluids and so forth before tuning can take place:

This is the final assembly. So, the transmission is built but it took about a year longer than estimated. I believe I was as patient as possible and hopefully this will all be wrapped up in December with a built motor, built transmission, a YSI, and a ton of horsepower.

Ok now that was funny. But serious $#@! curing AIDS cure cancer much more profitable. People in Africa don't have money, people in developed countries have plenty.

edit: Sadly this is probably why many cancers will be cured before AIDS.

I still respect them though, you have to respect them, they are monsters and I know what is done to my CLK and the power I am putting down and I got handled by one at the 1/2 mile a few weeks ago. Might be a different story at the Shift Sector event next weekend though .
I'm sick of looking at the damn things after TX2k...

My buddy and I did get smashed by a 1320whp GTR leaving dyno day. We were on 1220whp on the last pull with no chance in hell.. haha Click here to enlarge

yeah...the fact you can make them into 8 seconds daily drivers that can fit 4 with a full stereo, interior, ac, ps, etc. doesn't get old to me.

At this point, you could almost create a whole new set of car forums that don't have an Admin like Sticky or Jason lmao. The value of this content is small compared to other time wasting sites on the internet.

You are probably right that things would break more frequently if driven daily if that is what you are getting at. I don't know if it is daily driven but switzer made one at ran 8s in full street trim granted it did have drag rims. So I guess on street tires it would be a 9s DD. Either way to me it is very impressive.

GTR's are like game genies and gamesharks, you can only compete if you are using the same device. Unfair. Click here to enlarge

Awww he goes to this now. I wish I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth and nobody is handing me anything. I work every step of the way every single day with my own hands thank you very much. You would think you could appreciate that but as I told you a long time ago your opinion really holds little weight with me if any at this point.

Hopefully someday you can give your children what your parents didn't give you: Manners.

Seriously you come in here mouthing off about how you worked harder, was never given anything, older, wiser, calling people names, etc. etc. Seriously? Is that the kind of person you? Do you really need to turn things into an online competition to make you feel better about yourself? Given how old you say you are you act like someone who is much younger.

I'm fortunate in the education respect and being in this country, absolutely. But unless you spent your childhood in a concentration camp during World War II like my father did I really don't think you had it all that rough.

Absolutely. And for people on forums to lecture me about how 'hard' they supposedly had it and had to work. Please.

Back on topic. @Sticky, if your car is ready and running for the airstrip. Will you be able to dyno on the low boost setting so we can all see where you're at? Like a good ol third party dynojet dyno?

Of course I will dyno it. New e9x record on break in boost lol.

This all started by ribbing Joe and his build. No competition from me as I feel great about myself and dont need to put anyone down to feel good. i am a little fish in a big pond and keep it that way. Never said I worked harder by any stretch.

i will be the first one to say congrats to Joe as this is a good website he has. ultimately these little online tiffs are great for his hit count.

anyways out to to the track to play....later

Dude Sticky is not making the Shift Sector event, it's Friday afternoon and his car is not running, do you really think that the slow asses at Gintani can get it running, tunned and broken in before Sticky will need to head out to the event next Friday afternoon?

Another week gone and the car has not even fired yet, good god.....
