    • DCT Build Part XII - Build complete, pictures of final assembly, transmission cooler, and Viton seals

      Well, this has been a rather lengthy road to completion but the transmission is basically complete. The car was dropped off by SSP last month to Gintani who should have the motor in by the end of this week. The problem is SSP mounted their trans cooler in the location the heat exchanger for the supercharger needs to go so SSP will need to come to Gintani's facility to re-run their lines as the cooler will need to go in a different location. What took so long for this update? Well, we have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for SSP to send us details on the Viton seals that required 3 redesigns but never received the information on why these seals are superior to the stock units.

      So, I decided to do my own research and here is what I came up with. These are the stock BMW seals used in the DCT. What is wrong with them exactly? We do not know other than they apparently are not up to the task:










      Here are the Viton seals which delayed the project by 3 months. Viton is a synthetic rubber used for seals, O-rings, things of that sort. Viton was likely used as it is less susceptible to decay and already used in BMW applications such as in VANOS. Viton has much higher temperature and chemical resistance characteristics than the stock seals. Here is what they look like:










      This is the DCT cooler that was mounted by SSP up front. This needs to be moved somewhere else as the supercharger heat exchanger will need to go there. This means SSP will need to come out and run their lines again checking all their fluids and so forth before tuning can take place:














      This is the final assembly. So, the transmission is built but it took about a year longer than estimated. I believe I was as patient as possible and hopefully this will all be wrapped up in December with a built motor, built transmission, a YSI, and a ton of horsepower.

        There was never a definitive money race with the C , if you recall I said I might race you with the C for 2 to 1 after I race you with the CLK and the 10 to 1 odds race was only for the CLK and that race offer still stands, minimum of $1000 for you to wager, meaning I win you pay me $1000 you win I pay you $10,000. I am that confident!

        Why would I make stupid bets with my C which was never intended to be a drag car??? If you want to run me in a five lap race at Willow Springs I will give you 20 to 1 odds against the C, you pay double if I can lap you in those five laps.

        Well, JRCART never committed to 5:1 on the C, but said he would determine the bet once he got dyno numbers. I guess after he got dyno numbers, he offered to 2:1, which it looks like you accepted.

        I will give him the 2 to 1 after the CLK race...the entire discussion started with the CLK race, I know exactly what I said and I am not backing down.

        Bottom line Sticky said he could hang with the Weistec CLK's, I am giving him crazy odds so if he is so confident he can hang he needs to show up at the drag strip with his car and some cash. I will bring cash.

        This just keeps getting better and better. One question, how many years is it going to take to get your suspension upgraded?

        As for your blah blah blah comment, you are the only person with blah blah blah's in this thread....DCT, blah blah blah, sleeved block blah blah blah, flexing block blah, blah, blah, meth injection blah, blah, blah. You car is still not $#@!ing running yet you are running off at the mouth about running me on a road course sometime in the next decade when you find a tuner compitent enoug to bolt on a set of coil overs. Here's an idea for you, first run my $#@!ing CLK like you said you would, then I will give you a stab at the C for 2 to 1 like I said I would then we can head over to the road course where you will be made a serious fool...I have more warm up and cool down laps on road courses than you have laps on a road course.

        Funny, Gintani has not posted $#@! on Instgram in days..Maybe next week?

        Then we have the Easter weekend excuse, then you will have the engine break in excuse to fall back on, then is there a full moon next week we have to worry about too Sticky? Any shortages of race fuel? Barometric pressure might be a concern as well..........

        LMAO, it took you three years to build your motor, based on that time tabke suspension should take at least two months.

        I don't understand how motors, transmissions, that have never been built have anything to do with suspension components that have already been tried and true and are off the shelf.

You $#@!ing parts heap is notmeven runing, let me know when the thing idels and can pull redline in every gear...until then it is a $#@!ing parts heap!

        I hope you can hang with 1100whp becuase that is what it is going to take! In the oast three year very real progress has been made by Weistec on the CLKs, world records and some serious beat downs at a half mile event, meanwhile in those same three years we have seen three photos of your car out of Gintani.
