• DCT Build Part XII - Build complete, pictures of final assembly, transmission cooler, and Viton seals

Well, this has been a rather lengthy road to completion but the transmission is basically complete. The car was dropped off by SSP last month to Gintani who should have the motor in by the end of this week. The problem is SSP mounted their trans cooler in the location the heat exchanger for the supercharger needs to go so SSP will need to come to Gintani's facility to re-run their lines as the cooler will need to go in a different location. What took so long for this update? Well, we have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for SSP to send us details on the Viton seals that required 3 redesigns but never received the information on why these seals are superior to the stock units.

So, I decided to do my own research and here is what I came up with. These are the stock BMW seals used in the DCT. What is wrong with them exactly? We do not know other than they apparently are not up to the task:

Here are the Viton seals which delayed the project by 3 months. Viton is a synthetic rubber used for seals, O-rings, things of that sort. Viton was likely used as it is less susceptible to decay and already used in BMW applications such as in VANOS. Viton has much higher temperature and chemical resistance characteristics than the stock seals. Here is what they look like:

This is the DCT cooler that was mounted by SSP up front. This needs to be moved somewhere else as the supercharger heat exchanger will need to go there. This means SSP will need to come out and run their lines again checking all their fluids and so forth before tuning can take place:

This is the final assembly. So, the transmission is built but it took about a year longer than estimated. I believe I was as patient as possible and hopefully this will all be wrapped up in December with a built motor, built transmission, a YSI, and a ton of horsepower.

But you are so $#@!ing wrong, the owner does care! Do you need me to go through this thread and other threads and pull out the dozens of quotes Sticky has made in regards to "if the car is not done there will be he'll to pay"? Sticky has planned on attending and participating in several events dating back to one year ago and he honestly thought his car would b ready for those events and he missed them all. Looks like he is about to miss another one in three weeks.

I agree. I metioned before that people rather than learning and gathering info, they are now simply just waiting. but like Sticky said in response, he doesnt care. Rightfully so i guess since it is his car, time, and money.

Damn its been that long. I believe i started my turbo v8 e30 swap in Feb. of 2010. The motor, trans, drive shaft, wiring and everything associated was in, the turbo system built, and the car running by summer 2010. Now yea yea i know its no DCT build and complexity but im also not a million dollar budget company with an entire team of engineers behind me.

To me bench racing is telling someone how fast you car us when you currently have nothing to race. What is your definition?

Calling races with no experience namely with the cars involved when it seems I'm the only one to have that with both setups... making me more qualified than anyone else to discuss how they compare wouldn't you say?

Right, because every car with the same setup is the same...

The question is very simple, is your car running right now or not? No need to take offense..

So you have experience driving you car with the current setup? Please share!!!

Joe for what it is worth I actually support you on this thread but whilst I know you don't care when your car is done, you should not be giving any stick on how fast your car is until it runs.

Earl , just let him dig himself in a deeper hole, he has no idea what is going on with our cars, just make sure you can get yourself and your car up here so you can spank him at the Byron rental too, I don't to hog all the fun to myself.

I was originally talking about Stickys car being ready. I really wanna see it do some action esp vs C36 BS Weistec Stage 3 and the Ess VT3.

I'm hoping to as well man. There is going to be another event in May at the same Shafter Airstrip. Just letting you know that there is more back up, just in case. Click here to enlarge LOL
Damn already paid out for everything!! That was quick....Cant wait to check out your thread soon..

If Joe knew what has happened he would be very quiet...

re:phone call last night, the accepted my offer at 120..I said they initally rejected it so i dropped it to 110. Told them. Will show up tomorrow afternoon with a cashiers check...take it or leave I said.

Trying to talk myself into skipping Barrett Jackson and coming out for shift...I hear a BMW won't be done in time so that could leave n extra spot....after t I am up for Byron.

Yes, Joe is going to be very very quiet when he realzes what is going on with our CLKs. I enjoy watching him talk and digging his own grave lol.Little does he know how high the bar has been raised.

If you can make Shift Sector that would be awesome. And keep me posted on what we discussed last night, if you can get it for $100k you are stealing it, $120-$125k is fair market value for that car. Good luck!
