• DCT Build Part XII - Build complete, pictures of final assembly, transmission cooler, and Viton seals

Well, this has been a rather lengthy road to completion but the transmission is basically complete. The car was dropped off by SSP last month to Gintani who should have the motor in by the end of this week. The problem is SSP mounted their trans cooler in the location the heat exchanger for the supercharger needs to go so SSP will need to come to Gintani's facility to re-run their lines as the cooler will need to go in a different location. What took so long for this update? Well, we have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for SSP to send us details on the Viton seals that required 3 redesigns but never received the information on why these seals are superior to the stock units.

So, I decided to do my own research and here is what I came up with. These are the stock BMW seals used in the DCT. What is wrong with them exactly? We do not know other than they apparently are not up to the task:

Here are the Viton seals which delayed the project by 3 months. Viton is a synthetic rubber used for seals, O-rings, things of that sort. Viton was likely used as it is less susceptible to decay and already used in BMW applications such as in VANOS. Viton has much higher temperature and chemical resistance characteristics than the stock seals. Here is what they look like:

This is the DCT cooler that was mounted by SSP up front. This needs to be moved somewhere else as the supercharger heat exchanger will need to go there. This means SSP will need to come out and run their lines again checking all their fluids and so forth before tuning can take place:

This is the final assembly. So, the transmission is built but it took about a year longer than estimated. I believe I was as patient as possible and hopefully this will all be wrapped up in December with a built motor, built transmission, a YSI, and a ton of horsepower.

I think some people are praying I don't so there's a battle going on in the heavens over this. I think the side of good will win.

Just stumbled across this build. This is why your car is out of commission as of late? I keep seeing people making fun of you about it, and i never understood why lol Synopsis of whats going on? Reinforcing the DCT for high HP?

More than just that. Low compression fully built and sleeved motor, with a YSI blower. Along with new DCT clutch pack disc which is the harder part. You need to tune the transmission which has not been done before.

So it has taken them 2 years to build this transmission?

The building part was easy, even Drew on M3Post tried the same SSP Kevlar DCT plates in his DCT. The software reprogramming is what's preventing this from being a finished product.

Gotcha, so the tranny is all put back together and they are just waiting for tuning software, which nobody has..

Nice. Hopefully it does make it down, I'd like to check it out.

Which eventually blew his transmission unfortunately. He didn't know it had to be tuned for the discs. He's on a stock DCT and it's holding the power for now. I'm sure as long as you don't abuse the DCT or do multiple back to back hard launches it should hold up. I mean it's mainly torque that is the issue.

At least my car runs and drives just fine.On the other hand your Unicorn has been down for God knows how long now.I really lost track.
Those YSI blowers put down great numbers but i've never seen any of them running,i heard of multiple blown motors and etc but im sure it did put down some serious numbers.
Good Luck with your build !

I just wanna see something non-ESS competing for top spot. IF (big IF) Sticky's car is as good as advertised (low compression with YSI & quality tuning), it'll take Top S65 WHP & Top DCT WHP all in one shot. And if the DCT reprogramming actually is as good as the OEM LC, it should be fastest S65 in the 1/4 mile. But like I said, it's IF (or more when) Sticky's car hits the road cause the only thing that matters is dyno sheets & 1/4 mile slips.

Well, As most know a lot I do a lot that people don't like. So i know how it feels for people to "hate" on your project. But in reality, nobody else's opinions should matter other then the owner.

But saying "you own a 335" is implying the 335 is less of a car, and I think that most will argue that they would rather own a 335 over a M3 car for car. For tune-abilty, price etc.

Fair enough,I don't drag race but im sure a LC built motor running a YSI blower would be an absolute monster and i would def see it clocking great numbers on the strip !

That is true and i agree with you 1000% no doubt, wasn't my intention to disrespect anyone.
I used to own a 135i and i still miss that car, monster little thing !
