• DCT Build Part XII - Build complete, pictures of final assembly, transmission cooler, and Viton seals

      Well, this has been a rather lengthy road to completion but the transmission is basically complete. The car was dropped off by SSP last month to Gintani who should have the motor in by the end of this week. The problem is SSP mounted their trans cooler in the location the heat exchanger for the supercharger needs to go so SSP will need to come to Gintani's facility to re-run their lines as the cooler will need to go in a different location. What took so long for this update? Well, we have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for SSP to send us details on the Viton seals that required 3 redesigns but never received the information on why these seals are superior to the stock units.

      So, I decided to do my own research and here is what I came up with. These are the stock BMW seals used in the DCT. What is wrong with them exactly? We do not know other than they apparently are not up to the task:










      Here are the Viton seals which delayed the project by 3 months. Viton is a synthetic rubber used for seals, O-rings, things of that sort. Viton was likely used as it is less susceptible to decay and already used in BMW applications such as in VANOS. Viton has much higher temperature and chemical resistance characteristics than the stock seals. Here is what they look like:










      This is the DCT cooler that was mounted by SSP up front. This needs to be moved somewhere else as the supercharger heat exchanger will need to go there. This means SSP will need to come out and run their lines again checking all their fluids and so forth before tuning can take place:














      This is the final assembly. So, the transmission is built but it took about a year longer than estimated. I believe I was as patient as possible and hopefully this will all be wrapped up in December with a built motor, built transmission, a YSI, and a ton of horsepower.

        If the transmission isn't working correctly, how did Alex get 1200+ break in miles on the motor, on the dyno?

        You aren't a bright bulb are you? In spite of the issues when revving it out he broke it in. I believe you talked to him and tried to tell him it's impossible to be making the power we are? Oh ya you still think I have a six cylinder. Him and I both laughed.

        Damn dude.. Something tells me your very familiar with the DTPA. As an outsider with no skin in this game, your responses are pathetic and unprofessional. I don't have all the facts accounted for is your issues with Joe but as a "business" it's your reputation your diminishing with your choice of actions, not his. Even if Joe were completely to blame for the transmissions shortcomings, your making yourself out to look very unprofessional. As of now I wouldn't take any of your products if you GAVE them to me.         In my professional experience I've lost my a** in many dealings just to make good and move on with a good reputation regardless of who was at fault. If I were you I'd take the time and energy your wasting to gossip online to get this square with Joe and prove your products worth. Make it right and get that money dude..

        Exactly! What kind of decent company does this? Well I guess you can't expect too much from a company falsely advertising products as being functioning. Between going out of business and this crap I think it's safe to say SSP is a sham.

        It would probably help your company out immensely if you explained to us what is going on with the clutch product you offer. Why has no one been able to successfully put it on?

        So I guess all the kids whose parents are billionaires aren't true ballers even if they live in mansions and can buy pretty much whatever they want? Not saying I am in this case at all or use my parents money. I've been working my ass off but definitely had good support. I know quite a few ballers, self made too, that choose to live with their parents. We aren't talking about basement apartments here. In a 10ksqft+ house you have quite a bit of freedom.

        Of course I know plenty of rich kids who are lazy, stuck up and would be straight up bums without their parents.

        I don't think we know Sticky's situation enough to be criticizing him like that. Maybe he helps with an already successful family business? He did say he was getting some degrees which is always a good sign.

        These remarks are terrible coming from a representative of a company.

        I assume this means Sticky won't be making thr 1/2 mile event in Chicago the first week of June....Who would have thunk it?

        People need to boycott SSP, I will be sure to spread the word to eveyone I know and on all the other forums I participate on.

        What proof do you have here of any engine issues anyway? And what do they have to do with your end which is the transmission?

Let's be real, you used my trans out of a brand new $75k car to develop discs you sell and my work was an afterthought.         The 1/2 mile event has nothing to do with SSP I just need a stock trans no big deal at all.

        The question is what I do I do with this $10k piece of junk trans SSP screwed up that I now have sitting here? I think they should take it back.

        Why has nobody successfully put it on? Because SSP doesn't know what the $#@! it's doing. Having Asian manufacturers build you GTR clutch discs isn't the same as upgrading a trans they have never seen before. And the only person who let them see it was me only to have them not deliver a working trans (over a year late) and then hang me out to dry plus insult me on top of it for being trusting/nice enough to send my trans out in the first place when the car was still new and these trans were a rarity to have.

        I can't think of any other owner of a brand new DCT M3 back then willing to do what I did for him. Which is probably why he begged me to send it and begged for a PDK too because he got spanked in the GTR market.

        This moron thinks my car has a six cylinder and when he spoke to Alex he was trying to tell him about how there's no way we were making the power we were making and was trying to tell him how to tune. This dude can't even get a $#@!ing oil pan right.

        It looks like SSP really screwed him over. Explains why they went out of business, etc. Sticky should have avoided them from the beginning. Even with Drew's car they sold a product that ultimately didn't work. I was actually looking into it myself. How can you guys sell something that wasn't tested and found to be working?
        Look, I did avoid them. Hence why I posted on the forum where they originated in Sioux Falls. I simply had no choice after my discs were used as this was three years ago. Back then the car was brand new and DCT transmissions weren't available used let alone having the ability to get an OEM clutch basket.

        Kris told me he could have the trans done in a few months. A few months stretched into a couple years almost. He acts like a used car salesman. He doesn't know this platform whatsoever. He just wanted a trans to develop discs because he feels he can sell discs once the cars come out of warranty. He didn't test his stuff, he didn't take the time to make sure it worked, he just doesn't care. He just wants to use people to make money that's it.

        Well this is one guy who isn't going to roll over. Oh, and if you talk to other people on this forum on other platforms their statements echo this. Look at his VW scene rep.

        I have serious concerns with this thread. Let me elaborate:

        1. This is my R32. Search for Zevion Stage 4 on GolfMkV.com forum.

        2. The car was built by Further Performance in Minneapolis and not SSP as claimed here.

        3. The tuning was done by Jeff Attwood of United Motorsports

        4. SSP promised a clutch pack solution. The car was returned 4 months later with nothing.

        5. SSP returned the car and installed some R&D clutches onsite at Further Performance that did not work.

        6. SSP promised to return the following week and try a new set of R&D clutches. Further Performance had removed the DSG the night before and was ready for SSP to show up. They didn't and did not contact us either. FP installed stock clutches that same day because we had to drive the car from Minneapolis to Georgia for the SoWo show a couple of days later.

        7. I have heard nothing back. Including the CNC parts that were also promised to arrive. I can't think of ONE promise they fulfilled.

        So at this point I am extremely disappointed with SSP. And the fact that they have the crazy nerve to take claim for a 2.5 year R&D effort and build done by SOMEONE ELSE.

        SSP, help me understand this, because I am at a loss.

        Right now, I'd just like them to come through with the other two DSG R&D clutch packs they said they would try. I was promised this, I loaned a car to them for months and a spare DSG to help them do the R&D and I got NOTHING.

        Are they reputable? If they are, then they should MAKE GOOD on their word. I was VERY straight forward with them and I got punished. Also the lies in this thread need to be corrected.

        Now, as for loosening three down pipe V-clamps and the upper and lower wastegate bolts and not tightening them back up, well thats a story for another day.
