    • DCT Build Part XII - Build complete, pictures of final assembly, transmission cooler, and Viton seals

      Well, this has been a rather lengthy road to completion but the transmission is basically complete. The car was dropped off by SSP last month to Gintani who should have the motor in by the end of this week. The problem is SSP mounted their trans cooler in the location the heat exchanger for the supercharger needs to go so SSP will need to come to Gintani's facility to re-run their lines as the cooler will need to go in a different location. What took so long for this update? Well, we have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for SSP to send us details on the Viton seals that required 3 redesigns but never received the information on why these seals are superior to the stock units.

      So, I decided to do my own research and here is what I came up with. These are the stock BMW seals used in the DCT. What is wrong with them exactly? We do not know other than they apparently are not up to the task:










      Here are the Viton seals which delayed the project by 3 months. Viton is a synthetic rubber used for seals, O-rings, things of that sort. Viton was likely used as it is less susceptible to decay and already used in BMW applications such as in VANOS. Viton has much higher temperature and chemical resistance characteristics than the stock seals. Here is what they look like:










      This is the DCT cooler that was mounted by SSP up front. This needs to be moved somewhere else as the supercharger heat exchanger will need to go there. This means SSP will need to come out and run their lines again checking all their fluids and so forth before tuning can take place:














      This is the final assembly. So, the transmission is built but it took about a year longer than estimated. I believe I was as patient as possible and hopefully this will all be wrapped up in December with a built motor, built transmission, a YSI, and a ton of horsepower.

        Sticky - I'm not a lawyer, but I've been in similar situations. My advice - stop posting on it and document, document, document. Them let the lawyers have at it. You don't have to prove anything here (in fact, there is probably no upside to trying to prove it here).

        Prove myself right? I just posted more documentation and facts than SSP ever did yet you eat Kris's garbage up without anything supporting it. I just refuted his entire post.

        Where has he been in this thread by the way? Well? Where are all his posts? When was the last time he logged in? Where was he to post to see how his trans is doing or sending an e-mail or making a phone call? What about scheduling when to come out to make sure everything works right like he told me he would? Well?

        Ya you sit on the sidelines.

        Service never delivered, time / money lost, vehicle depreciation during that time, he made a product he sells based on what I gave him, etc. There's a ton here.

        Did you sign any sortof contract or have proof of an agreement stating what SSP was going to provide you with?

        I could see if you paid for their services but in this case being the guinea pig for a product that was unsuccessful seems like the best thing to do is just walk away and lick the wound...it'll probably end up costing more in lawyer fees with nobody coming out on top.

        Don't get me wrong, I would be more than pissed in your situation and there is no question that this sucks major dick. SSP should do the right thing but thankfully it seems that their business has caved before and from the sounds of things it hasn't improved and the best thing you can do now is warn any others...like you were already warned. That is also a tough pill to swallow...you walked into the situation knowing the previous troubles that occured.

        My suggestion is to switch your focus back to the car and find a way to get it done. You've said more than once that it isn't a matter of money that stops you from doing things...well lets see it.

        Exaxtly so I'll jusy buy another trans which is already in progress and just let this other stuff be worked out with this con artist. This is principle now I showed infinite patience and you forget the advertising as well as marketing done for him free of charge. Im the only reason he sold clutches. Lawyers will sort it out

        Well this is getting interesting.

        Bottom line though is that this overall build won't be complete anytime soon. How about that other company SPE Engineering or something the guy on the other forum about Kris mentioned?

        Well I guess that JRCart fella was right.
