    • DCT Build Part XII - Build complete, pictures of final assembly, transmission cooler, and Viton seals

Well, this has been a rather lengthy road to completion but the transmission is basically complete. The car was dropped off by SSP last month to Gintani who should have the motor in by the end of this week. The problem is SSP mounted their trans cooler in the location the heat exchanger for the supercharger needs to go so SSP will need to come to Gintani's facility to re-run their lines as the cooler will need to go in a different location. What took so long for this update? Well, we have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for SSP to send us details on the Viton seals that required 3 redesigns but never received the information on why these seals are superior to the stock units.

So, I decided to do my own research and here is what I came up with. These are the stock BMW seals used in the DCT. What is wrong with them exactly? We do not know other than they apparently are not up to the task:

Here are the Viton seals which delayed the project by 3 months. Viton is a synthetic rubber used for seals, O-rings, things of that sort. Viton was likely used as it is less susceptible to decay and already used in BMW applications such as in VANOS. Viton has much higher temperature and chemical resistance characteristics than the stock seals. Here is what they look like:

This is the DCT cooler that was mounted by SSP up front. This needs to be moved somewhere else as the supercharger heat exchanger will need to go there. This means SSP will need to come out and run their lines again checking all their fluids and so forth before tuning can take place:

This is the final assembly. So, the transmission is built but it took about a year longer than estimated. I believe I was as patient as possible and hopefully this will all be wrapped up in December with a built motor, built transmission, a YSI, and a ton of horsepower.

Jim's has now purchased a C, spent a couple bucks on the SC set up and is having a blast with a road racer while unfortunately you car is still a month or two of being finished.

Again, Cart might be busting you a bit too hard but still funny to watch! Click here to enlarge

FYI I am trying to get into the CHI show in June. Presuming your car is ready by that point (yes a stretch I know) we will also have to line up.
Hell Earl, the new SLS BS might be here and have a blower on it before Stickys car is ready. Speaking of new toys, what's going on with what you and I discussed last week? Did the seller come to his senses and accept your counter offer?

As your car was to at least as fast as the CLK's, you should be looking at races without someone having to give you odds.
What do you mean I'm not focusing on the CLK? Why because I'm breaking a motor in and not just going full boost right away to satisfy some fascination you and Jim have with my car?

I am talking about what you said before these rolling races were ever discussed. You knew three years ago the engine would need a break in and you only mention it now?

You are def a faster bench racer than anyone on the forum.

Remember, your the one who said how fast your car is/going to be...we have heard nothing but x uses for the past two years, what do expect??

Whatever the outcome of the race, I suspect dickfives will be passed out accordingly.

I could probably go to Toys R Us and purchase a kids chemistry set and come up with a cure for HIV before Gintani has this car running.

Let me respond for Sticky....I have a DCT, it is complicated. My build is the first of its kind. I want things done right. I do not care how long it takes. It will be done when it's done. Just a few more months. Just a few more weeks. Just a few more days.

Best part about the recent updates is Sticky hasn't even mentioned how long or what his breakin process will be....For all we know the car will be back on the road next week...but then we will wait another 3 years until its "broken in" haha

And also cant believe hes put this much into the car and is on stock M3 suspension....when is Gintani gonna start making coils so you can get a discount?
