    • DCT Build Part XII - Build complete, pictures of final assembly, transmission cooler, and Viton seals

Well, this has been a rather lengthy road to completion but the transmission is basically complete. The car was dropped off by SSP last month to Gintani who should have the motor in by the end of this week. The problem is SSP mounted their trans cooler in the location the heat exchanger for the supercharger needs to go so SSP will need to come to Gintani's facility to re-run their lines as the cooler will need to go in a different location. What took so long for this update? Well, we have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for SSP to send us details on the Viton seals that required 3 redesigns but never received the information on why these seals are superior to the stock units.

So, I decided to do my own research and here is what I came up with. These are the stock BMW seals used in the DCT. What is wrong with them exactly? We do not know other than they apparently are not up to the task:

Here are the Viton seals which delayed the project by 3 months. Viton is a synthetic rubber used for seals, O-rings, things of that sort. Viton was likely used as it is less susceptible to decay and already used in BMW applications such as in VANOS. Viton has much higher temperature and chemical resistance characteristics than the stock seals. Here is what they look like:

This is the DCT cooler that was mounted by SSP up front. This needs to be moved somewhere else as the supercharger heat exchanger will need to go there. This means SSP will need to come out and run their lines again checking all their fluids and so forth before tuning can take place:

This is the final assembly. So, the transmission is built but it took about a year longer than estimated. I believe I was as patient as possible and hopefully this will all be wrapped up in December with a built motor, built transmission, a YSI, and a ton of horsepower.

it could also be a mecanical limitation in the dct oilpump,it has a max capacity of 30 bar and it might not been enough to prevent the clutches to slip if you raise the torque to much, here are some facts

The trans should be fine, there are some other hardware changes going on as well that should be completed this month.

Those YSI blowers put down great numbers but i've never seen any of them running,i heard of multiple blown motors and etc but im sure it did put down some serious numbers.
Good Luck with your build !
Your car runs, good for you. Unfortunately your car doesn't run fast enough for me. You enjoy it, unfortunately, it's not good enough to satisfy me.

Oh no my car has been down, oh noes. I don't see anyone commenting on some other cars that have been down longer that aren't doing anything as complex. But it's find to only point fingers in one direction everyone knows what a fanboy you are.

I've seen the YSI running on the S65, weird you haven't. Probably because you use a tuner not capable of creating a setup with one. Let me know if they ever do.

I've heard of lot's of blown motors from all over myself, everyone has them some people just prefer to pretend like they have a flawless tuner. Everyone has motor failures, EVERYONE. Even the false tuning gods whose but you have permanently glued your lips to.

        Cya.

And if the DCT reprogramming actually is as good as the OEM LC, it should be fastest S65 in the 1/4 mile. But like I said, it's IF (or more when) Sticky's car hits the road cause the only thing that matters is dyno sheets & 1/4 mile slips.
It won't even be a comparison, these kids with their baby blowers are doing things now where others were almost 3 years ago. Nothing new or interesting... and won't even be a competition.

Shocked that you don't hit the track having the the most powerful S65 on the East Coast (not sure how it stands up against S65's globally)

Something similar to a turbo Scion.

I'd say 7XX on pump and we'll see where I go from there.

I was calculating fuel costs to tow and it would be like $1200 there and $1200 back. Plus the hotel, fees, etc.

I mean it's possible but that's not cheap.

That's a normal cost to this hobby for most racers....and it gets more expensive if you have a motorhome and a stacker.

This is exactly why it's good to check with race shops before events to share trailer space. Some shops have 3-4 spaces in their rigs...and they don't mind selling them to help cover costs. Just an idea.....

This is an excellent suggestion. I'm sure a bunch of shops will be coming out from Cali.

I will keep it in mind. The issue though is as always the car being done.

Just wait till for now. Shift sector will have another airstrip in feb. I believe. Would love to see it live at the event.
