    • DCT Build Part XII - Build complete, pictures of final assembly, transmission cooler, and Viton seals

Well, this has been a rather lengthy road to completion but the transmission is basically complete. The car was dropped off by SSP last month to Gintani who should have the motor in by the end of this week. The problem is SSP mounted their trans cooler in the location the heat exchanger for the supercharger needs to go so SSP will need to come to Gintani's facility to re-run their lines as the cooler will need to go in a different location. What took so long for this update? Well, we have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for SSP to send us details on the Viton seals that required 3 redesigns but never received the information on why these seals are superior to the stock units.

So, I decided to do my own research and here is what I came up with. These are the stock BMW seals used in the DCT. What is wrong with them exactly? We do not know other than they apparently are not up to the task:

Here are the Viton seals which delayed the project by 3 months. Viton is a synthetic rubber used for seals, O-rings, things of that sort. Viton was likely used as it is less susceptible to decay and already used in BMW applications such as in VANOS. Viton has much higher temperature and chemical resistance characteristics than the stock seals. Here is what they look like:

This is the DCT cooler that was mounted by SSP up front. This needs to be moved somewhere else as the supercharger heat exchanger will need to go there. This means SSP will need to come out and run their lines again checking all their fluids and so forth before tuning can take place:

This is the final assembly. So, the transmission is built but it took about a year longer than estimated. I believe I was as patient as possible and hopefully this will all be wrapped up in December with a built motor, built transmission, a YSI, and a ton of horsepower.

Well that has been the major hold up but now we are just waiting on final assembly of all pieces and tuning.

Why brag about it? Just relax, I expect completion this month or else I have no idea what the hold up is.

Good news is, there's still quite a bit of this month left. In theory, that should improve your chances of driving your M3 over Memorial Day Weekend, if not before.

Sticky, when your car is up and running. Any chance you run Drew, or is there too much animosity there?

Drew is a pussy. I'll gladly run him or anyone else who has the courage to step up.

He runs like a girl though, he won't step up and let me smack him around for the world to see.

You'll need a functioning vehicle first though, correct? A car in pieces for a couple years isn't smacking anyone around, unless we're talking best-guess bench racing.

No, the idea is obviously to push the cars. Seriously?

Last I checked Drew tried to run the clutch upgrades I pioneered only to end up having to buy a new trans.

Save your talk on the build time for when you do something of merit. One thing we can all agree on is YOU aren't running with anyone serious whether your car is in pieces or not.

For now, sit on the sidelines where you belong.

Touched a nerve, eh? My bad.

Back to the topic of this thread, yes, we all know you volunteered your trans for SSP to develop upgrades - upgrades SSP told us you got for free in return. Seems pretty generous, not many shops do that (give upgrades away for literally free, just for being a development vehicle). Funny that you didn't mention it, and would've gone unknown until they let the cat outta the bag. Regardless, it absolutely sucks that you've had to wait so long to get your car done, but reading between the lines in this thread, it frankly sounds like a LOT of the downtime of late is a result of your tuner, not your trans builder. Why they don't seem motivated to wrap it up, I don't know, but it seems like it gets back-burnered whenever they have more profitable work in their backlog, which is probably almost all of the time.

Back to the trans, presumably, Drew had to buy those SSP clutch packs - and maybe they had something to do with his electronic issues, or maybe it was coincidence? Not sure if anyone knows... if they do, they're not talking. All we seem to know is that he's back to an OEM transmission, which seems to be enough to beat up on a Stage 2 Weistec C63 pretty handily.

More like a stupid post on your part. The assumption is obviously to race a car that isn't complete. Great logic there.

I decide what the topic of my thread is, thanks.

SSP got someone to donate a 70k+ car that they held for over 18 months. The generosity was on my part as I get idiots like yourself complaining about the build time because they delivered it far later than they should have. Now they have parts to sell based on disassembly of my 15k+ trans and get to sell them and make money while my project was delayed for a year. What, my time and car is not valuable?

What cat out of the bag? You could have called Chris any time. I focused on the build not my personal expenses which are none of your business. I also have to pay for a lot of parts and labor that was not delivered. Not to mention SSP wrote that to deflect criticism for taking so damn long. Simply, oh, it's free so who cares how long it takes was the mentality.

Oh please do elaborate how it is my tuners fault. I think I have a better grasp on my own build than you and SSP took one year too long and I was way too nice about it.

Now kindly STFU and go wow people with a build of your own as if anyone gives a crap about your C32 or other outdated cars you are doing nothing with. Read more, hate less.

Let's see him take it to the strip, running from a roll is easier on the trans which is why he is doing it.

he would lose in that respect, since @PencilGeek is the master of benchracing, always showing how his setup is gods gift to mankind, and his car hasnt been running for longer, with no dct to throw in the mix.

That's pretty hard to beat lol. The car is super light compared to sticky's, one advantage for z06. Sticky has DCT which is the advantage of the m3. Sticky would probably need 800whp to beat the car by a car or two..

Have you ever seen how he talks about you? @M3-WC can come and tell what happened at his thread, and how he acted. Everybody were talking $#@! about you, what Drew did? Nothing. He could talk $#@! as well, but he didn't. This is for public.
In private? "I don't know this guy, i just met him once. I can't tell what kind of person he is", this is what he said to me in PM.

You otherwise, insult him 24/7. You left and right call him pussy. For what? because according to you he never runs you. Run you with what car exactly? Your car was at SSP when he had Gintani SC, your car was at SSP when he switched to ESS, your car was at SSP/Gintani when he upgraded to VT3. So not a chance in running you, unless you are thinking about running with your Cayenne.

It's not right at all IMO.
