• 500+ horsepower rumors for "M" 550dx diesel were wrong - Gets 381 horsepower, 516 lb-ft of torque

      In an earlier article we reported that the 550dx was rumored to get 500+ horsepower. We were skeptical and stated that previous 400 horsepower and 550 pound-foot of torque numbers sounded far more realistic. Well, turns out that is exactly the case as the final numbers are 381 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque for the triple turbo diesel powerplant. Disappointing? Yes, as the hype for this car was out of control. This motor is mated to all wheel drive as previously reported which will help put all that torque down. Expect to see this engine make its way into other BMW models like the X-series shortly.

        I would be more than happy with 450 whp diesel making 700 wtq.
        Me too I just want to see it in some lighter cars. I hope it isn't just the X5 and X6 that get this motor. In the X3 this would fly!

        The biggest issue is the restrictive turbo manifolds, the DPF and the adblue injection. Get rid of them an make it more efficient and this motor will be a monster.

        Well the 3 series here and 5 series over there already have compound twin turbo setup...how they would fit a 3rd turbo is beyond me. Most diesel trucks use compounds as a way to make serious hp...for 3 turbos to fit its a plumbing nightmare.
