    • Bimmerboost 2011 LA Auto Show Coverage, disappointing showing by BMW

BMW's showing at the 2011 LA Auto Show was frankly pretty disappointing. Right up front was the BMW ActiveE while the new F10 M5 was hidden in the back in a dark, poorly lit corner. What about the new F30 3 series? BMW did not even bother showing it. Instead the focus was all on the BMW 'i' brand with a whole room built around the i3 and i8. There was no X5 or X6 M and BMW was pushing their electric nonsense even over their bread and butter 3 series which was just refreshed. Very disappointing that enthusiast models took a back seat especially when the competition such as Porsche and Mercedes were putting those models at the forefront.

Here is what BMW was obsessed with, Goodbye to Gas Stations. How about showing off more M models and hello to gas stations because you are having so much fun driving? BMW honestly expects us to pay $499 a month to drive a car that will bore us to death? I vaguely remember this thing called the Ultimate Driving Machine...

The new X3 with an M-sport package, quite nice looking:

I hate to say it, but the E92 is starting to look dated:

For the new F10 M5 to make its North American debut tucked away in a poorly lit corner made me sick. Mercedes had a huge rotating podium for the C63 Black Series right up front. Porsche had a beautifully set up elevated rotating display for the Panamera GTS. BMW instead stuck the new M5 in back behind their room for the BMW 'i' models where it did not get the attention it obviously deserves. Maybe BMW is showing everyone that M truly has taken a backseat?

Here is what BMW focused on, the i3 and i8. I will readily admit these concepts looked great, especially the i8. Hopefully nothing is changed for production as the vehicles are incredibly striking. I got in trouble for sitting in the i3 when some German guy who was about as fun as a prostate exam ran up and beckoned for me to get out. I just smiled, snapped my last photos, and left. If they do not want people sitting in the cars they probably should not leave the doors wide open without any warning. For the record, every other manufacturer allowed people to sit in their open vehicles.

New 640i cab, great looking car:

Great looking F10 that was already seen at SEMA but here it is again:

E46 M3 cab on color matched rims that just do not fit the character of the M3:

Another car that was at SEMA, great looking 7. Much better on these rims than before:

The yellow twin supercharged E60 M5 most of you are already familiar with. What we noticed this time that we missed before were the color matched headlights which looked great:

Vossen rims looked great on this X5:

The i3 and i8 looked interesting. If BMW keeps going in this direction, would everyone here switch companies?

You should get a SL 65.

Maybe I'll go towards Japanese cars then.

That makes two of us, I have a friend who has a SL 55. I told him to get a 65 but he wants something higher up.

Haha true, I told him to get a Lambo but don't think he wants to. He's kept his SL in really nice condition. I'll post some pictures sometime.
