First performance numbers for the F10 M5 are in - 0-60 in 3.7 and the 1/4 mile in 12.0@122, compares well with new 63 AMG's

That's some rediculously good times for such a heavy ass sedan. Gives me something to shoot for.

Will be interesting to see once these things start to get tuned.

Looks like the M5 is a bit cheaper, especially if you consider the PP AMG.
I still can't get over the M5s fake engine noise BS piped over the radio.

The fake engine noise is pretty lame, agreed. Mercedes wins the engine sound department hands down. When you have to resort to faking it, someone isn't getting the job done. Fortunately none of my girlfriends ever said that.

Yes, but the turbos are really the limitation which the performance package is pushing to just about their limit. So, Mercedes really is taking a chunk out of the aftermarket offering their own "tune" but that isn't doing anything top of the M5 in the 1/4 mile thus far. The E63 should be able to do around 124 traps I would think with the PP and it's hard to get more.

So, the M5 with a tune will definitely pick up more than 2 MPH. I think with the stock turbos the M5 appears to have more headroom. That is how I'm calling it...

It would eat an 04-06 Gallardo alive and only need to fear the newer V10's.

This will also outpace an F430 in the real world and a 458 won't pull away until higher speeds.

The turbos for the new M5 give it more headroom for power mods. Tune and meth and 11.0. Try and do that with an S85, good luck.

The engine noise is for the metrosexuals that buy this car and dont know any better. If I ever bought this car, I would rip the speaker system out so it never plays fake engine noise, ever.

These are amazing times. I was just reading up about this car in EVO magazine. It seems awesome, especially with the DCT trans.

A couple things: The F10 M5 has a blistering fast 0-100 mph time, but it has a so-so 1/4 time. That suggests something to me. First, let me say, for a car of this size, a 12.0 second 1/4 mile is awesome and obviously the car is faster on a preppred track with DR's--obviously. But, when you have an 8.3 second 0-100 mile time but a 12.0 second 1/4 mile time at 122 mph, that suggests the car starts to slow down after 100 mph.

And this isn't unusual for F/I cars. While the last generation engine (V10) would begin to breath it's massive lungs and individual throttle bodies at the higher speeds and ultimately be able to walk the M156, this engine shows the potential to fizzle out. I don't see this engine being a top end monster.

To put things into perspective, an M156-equipped E63 has recorded I believe a 9.2-9.4 0-100 mph time (by Evo magazine, Chris Harris mentioned this some months back). The F10 M5 records an 8.3 second 0-100 mph time. The M5 destroys the N/A E63 to 100 mph, but the E63 has run 12.0 second 1/4, stock, and has trapped 119 mph. So, where the new M5 starts to slow down, the older N/A engines start to pick up.

So, it may be looking like the aftermarket for these cars is going to be verrrrrrry expensive. When you want to see higher traps then lets say 128 mph, you're going to have to look into new turbos, maybe IC, maybe oil delivery, fuel pumps. It could get real expensive real fast. But, it will happen.

I dont see how the aftermarket for this car can be more expensive? Aftermarket power mods for a turbo car is orders of magnitude cheaper per horsepower than for an NA car at this price point.

Headers for the S85 are like 6000 and you will only get what, maybe 20 hp from them? A chip, something like a JB4, for this car will cost at most 1 grand and net you a good 100 hp or more. And meth, and DPs, everything is expounded on a turbo car.

Good point about the DP's. I forgot about that.

Do you know the size of the stock turbos on the F10?

Edit: Once you go beyond DP's and a new tune you're still stuck with the stock turbos' size. How much extra boost can these stock turbos make without creating too much heat and possibly wearing out prematurely?

For 0-60 they can use LC or clutch dumps (not in this case) for an optimum launch. For 5-60 the "clutch" is already out - cannot take advantage of higher RPMs to be in the meat of the power, etc… It's a roll vs. a launch - roll is more "realistic" and repeatable.

This 0-100 time is a good indicator of how fast this car really is... Just as a comparison, the F430 Spyder runs this in 9 flat... This is a VERY fast 4 door car - almost unbelievable for a stock car.

It is going to be cheaper and faster to get big gains early one vs. say the S85 which still doesn't have a reliable big power option other than G-power which is big money.

This should be able to get close to the 130's with the stock turbos at least. After that, yes, it will get expensive.
