• Renntech M157 91 octane tunes on a Performance Package 2012 S63 AMG and 2012 CLS 63 AMG closing in on 600 wheel horsepower

The last time we showed you the Renntech tunes on the on the performance package M157 they were putting down 558 whp on a dynojet with STD correction. On 91 octane Renntech is now closing in on 600 whp putting out 583 whp but the torque numbers slightly dipped to 635 vs. 653 previously. The CLS 63 AMG here was presented to us as a performance package car as well but the baseline dyno is much lower than what a performance package car should put down therefore we feel it is a standard CLS 63 AMG. If so, it just goes to show one can get greater gains for less money by opting not to purchase the performance package. Renntech is still tweaking these tunes but the results thus far are impressive.

S63 with M157 Performance Package with Renntech tune:

Definitely a great upgrade especially from just a tune.... I can't wait to see the M157 in action on the track.

550s whp to 580s whp is a big difference. Is this tune being sold to customers yet (or are these developmental numbers from a shop car)?

If you were a M157 owner, seems like you'd want to wait to see where these end up before buying (unless reflash upgrades are free as the tuning is improved?).

Don't know, Renntech is likely going to be sponsoring soon and should be able to answer your questions.

Glad to hear you're keeping the proverbial lights on.

Anyway, sounds like these are customer cars, and may be heading to a drag strip sometime soon... so that's good news.

If I were the customer, though, I'd want to know that as the M157 tune is further developed and refined, I'd be eligible to get reflashed to the current version for little or no cost. Otherwise, it really doesn't pay to be one of the "early adopter" guinea pigs for the tuner. IMO.

Doing my best, sometimes it is quite the balancing act.

Can't wait for Renntech to give us more details, just hang tight for a few more days.

I do not see why newer software revisions would not be available and it seems Renntech is trying to mitigate this aspect by releasing a tune that has been tested and revised considerably before hitting the marketplace.

I'm missing something...? These aren't RT shop cars - these are customer cars on the dyno(s). Tune must already be available in the marketplace to be on a customer's car, no? Unless they're pre-release beta testers?

Customers often lend their cars for testing products, I do.

Right, but I'm talking about this specific circumstance. So you're saying that in this case, these are customer cars lent to Renntech for testing their M157 tune, and that their M157 tune is not yet available to the general public (i.e. "before hitting the marketplace")?

To be perfectly honest, I do not know the complete details on this but simply stated it is not uncommon for customers to lend cars to get in on products early.

It would be best for you to ask Renntech directly so just sit tight for a day or two longer Click here to enlarge
