    • BMW 1M underrated and offering M3 power - First dyno's reveal 1M puts down 346 wheel horsepower with intake

It is nice to see BMW at least gave the 1M a little more in the tune over a standard N54. They obviously could have put out much more if they wanted to. 346 wheel horsepower in STD correction is pretty darn good for with an intake. That is basically M3 power right there. The car is rated at 335 crank so when a vehicle is putting out more to the wheels than it is rated at the motor that is definitely what we call underrated. This leads us to believe the reason the 1M did not get the DCT transmission is it would have stepped all over the M3's toes.

Dyno's courtesy of @Matt@Camber-Toe , thank you Matt!

I`m surprised some of you like the look of that dyno. Really poor top end imo.

MOTHER $#@!, do you have dynos without the intake?

If it was a regular run of the mill N54 then I wouldnt care less what this car can do. A built engine, even if it is a turbo one, in my eyes makes it all the better.
This is what it should have been but I don't believe it as it would have at least an engine designation change then.

Nope cuse we put the intake in the day before the show. It was a $#@! to get it in because it didnt exactly fit the 1M..

You need to do some reading lol..I mentioned it on the first page..

Maybe..but could it be that BMW had it built by them but its not listed as a true Alpina? what engine designation do they run anyway?

Thanks Click here to enlarge Id like to keep this as clean as possible, with all the facts and parts listed so we dont have people making wild assumptions.

We will be hitting the dyno again in a month when he comes back, with the N55 midpipe (catless from the factory) and a set of AR Design downpipes. Maybe crack the 400 mark Click here to enlarge

Yep, it is just underrated that is all...

The E46 M3 was rated at 333 and put down 275. Pretty big difference here.

That's a huge difference. It's almost comical how underrated this car is. It puts down MORE then the advertised crank HP numbers!!!! wtf!

well crank advertised hp is 335. Most people put down 320ish completley stock. Even so, only 15hp loss is slight, considering most 335s lose 25-30hp to the wheels (300 stock, most dyno in the 270 range), so I wouldnt be surprised if it was more.

There might be a slim chance that it might be redynoed with no intake. The dealer is $#@!ing about having to drive a modified car while its in their paint shop to fix the hood (has a factory defect, about a dozen small non-glossy blotches on the hood, and a weird paint line straight up the right side of the hood), but I dont understand why they need to drive it if its just going in for a hood repaint.

I would highly doubt this car has a built engine, its a parts bin car that BMW put together to offload a ton of inventory. Does not make sense that they would invest a dime in a built engine.

@Matt@Camber-Toe what is it that is different about the 1M n54 as compared to other n54's? You posted about someone telling you it was different but didn't really say what other than speculation about being Alpina built. Where did that stem from?

According to GIAC's official dynos, BMW 335i puts down 265whp while 1M puts down 292who, which is a 27whp difference, meaning about 30-35hp at the crank, exactly as BMW states.

Jeremy from OE Tuning has speculated due to the fuel and ignition maps looking identical to the Alpina setup, whereas a regular N54 was entirely different.

i guess we wont know until someone tears it down and we see for ourselves. 292 seems awfully low , if it was a mustang dyno maybe?
