    • BMW faking it - The new BMW F10 M5 features synthetic motor sounds through the audio system to enhance engine noise

Does anyone remember when M motors provided enough noise on their own? BMW is pumping synthetic engine noise into the cabin through the speaker system to the front and the back so everyone can hear what the motor is supposed to sound like. We like quiet cabins as well as engine sounds but this is a bit absurd. There is a real problem when a BMW M5 has to fake its engine noise. What is next? Different engine modes so you can pretend you have an F1 car or even fake blow off valve sounds to look cool to the kids?

BMW says the synthetic engines sounds are "an even more direct reminder of their car's performance." We kind of prefer for our engine to be a reminder of our car's performance, not the stereo. BMW, what the hell?

I think BMW did this was to give there customers a grin because of how the sound control mimics the exhaust for probably good reasons. 90% of the people that not afford this car. So the typical buyer of an m5 is probably elderly men and doesnt want a loud exhuast and BMW came up with the next best thing. Also, what if you have clients riding with you while you are discussing future business plans and such. In this case just turn off the engine noise option and you have a refined, civilized, luxory car that I can take my investors around as well. After your business is complete turn that sound audio on and go have some fun with it. But I do agree being 27 years old Im definently putting exhaust on my new one that should be here pretty soon. I cant wait to take delivery of this monster!!!
This is not the best thing next to a loud exhaust because this is synthetic. It is not the real motor sound. IT IS FAKE, CREATED, SYNTHESIZED.

What if you do have clients riding around with you? They want to sit there and discuss markets or why how $#@!ing awesome your V8 is? All I know is people who rode in my car don't want to suddenly talk about the Nikkei.

Ok, fine, I'll give it to you then. Say you have elderly clients with impeccable hearing who get bothered by anything loud that they do not understand. How about an exhaust cut-out? A switch that makes the natural sound louder basically? At least fill the cabin as God intended, with the rumble of an exhaust and not video game sounds.
