    • Next generation Porsche 991 GT3 will not get a dual clutch / PDK transmission

This is rather depressing news as we were hoping Porsche had embraced the PDK especially with the new 911 putting up lap times using this transmission as quick as the previous generation GT3. In an interview with MotorTrend, Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller stated the next generation GT3 would not be getting the PDK transmission. One reason why may be due to the weight of the transmission which can provide up to a 80 pound weight penalty. The performance advantage clearly outweighs the weight penalty however so we say give people the option. For now though, the GT3 remains the purest driving experience one can get.

You chose the right word. Porsche makes the distinction between automatics, manuals, and PDK's. You should as well.

        Wrong.

They state the PDK is an automatic. You should accept it

Learn how to read and comprehend what you have read, they state it has an automatic mode, as well as a manual gearshift:

The optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), with both manual gearshift and an automatic mode, enables smooth gear changes with no interruption in the flow of power. This results in significantly faster acceleration and lower fuel consumption, without having to sacrifice the ease of automatic transmission.

PDK is essentially two half gearboxes in one and thus requires two clutches – designed as a double wet clutch transmission.
I don't know how it can be any more clear and do not know why you are jumping to an erroneous conclusion when it is spelled out for you right there.

It just states that it has to different modes. Same as with a triptronic. It is an automatic transmission with two modes.

Be it a Triptronic, PDk or DCT it is an automatic trans

No, a PDK or DCT isn't an automatic trans. A tiptronic IS an automatic transmission.

Porsche makes the distinction, I'm not sure why you can't process it.

I do, because I want the proper information and terminology on this board.

WHo cares how it does it, if it shifts automatically, it is an automatic! Like I said before, if my wife can drive it...it is an automatic!!!!!!

Why are we arguing about pdk/dct being auto anyway? The new 911 is badass whether it comes in manual(which I would buy) or automatic(pdk).....

One thing is for sure, I would never put Tiptronic and PDK in the same sentence.

Tiptronic is the biggest piece of crap transmission I have ever used.

anyway its still an auto trans

Sure you can lump them in an auto or automanual category. But talking with other car people, I would never say "that is an automatic M3." Sounds f*cking retarded. When referring to M3 or 911, I either say dct/manual or pdk/manual.

Can it shift automatically? then it's auto.

I don't give a $#@! if your wife can pilot the space shuttle, she isn't an astronaut.

Because manual is manual and PDK is not automatic. A transmission with a torque converter would be an automatic.

No, it isn't. Porsche doesn't think so, the world doesn't think so, you simply don't know what you are talking about. People who call DCT's automatics are basically my biggest pet peeve because they are idiots.

Vast oversimplification of the hardware involved. Maybe it makes it easier to process for simple minded folk.

I know PDK or DCT isn't Auto, but if someone asks me what trans my car has i say it's auto. You really care to explain how a double clutch system with hydraulic pump works to every single person?

Yes, why should I assume people are too stupid to understand and dumb something down for them presenting it as something it is not? Give them more credit.

still an automatic transmission. If it can do it automatically it is an auto. It doesnt matter how it goes about doing it.
