So these diesel M5 rumors persist and the car has pretty much been confirmed. However, the horsepower numbers continue to jump all over the place and we do not know what the final output will end up being. Our previous report stated the car would be in the
400 horsepower range with 553 pound-feet of torque. That sounds at least realistic but now various sites are posting that the horsepower numbers are between 500-550 and torque is up to 650 pound-feet.
Thedetroitbureau.com reported they confirmed the car with inside BMW sources. In addition, the motor is going to be based on the current 3.0 liter diesel but with one small turbo for low end spool and two large turbos up top hopefully providing the very optimistic 500+ horsepower. The car will be mated to all wheel drive in order to help put all the torque to the ground. “You have to go to all-wheel-drive otherwise you’ll be spinning your tires all day" a BMW source stated.
