    • New HPF STAGE 5 TURBO - Precision 8285, 1.28 AR

The GT45 wouldn't fit in the limited space that's available in the M3. We are now trying the highly recommended Precision 8285. We have a mysterious 4,500rpm rev limiter with the ProEFI that comes and goes that we can't seem to track down. There is no on-board logger so we are trying to get some other software to work on our computer so we can look at the logs. However... we downloaded the software for $30 and that software doesn't seem to let us look at the logs. Help!! So we may switch back to the AEM again to try and get some dyno numbers out of this new turbo unless ProEFI can help us get through these issues.

Here's a picture of the new monster turbo We are told we should be able to see 1100rwhp with this bad boy.
      Chris.

How is he helping the community by showing a number? He IS breaking records etc but without contributing anything to the community. Im sure many on here and other forums would agree with me.
thanks for replying, i was wondering when i'd get the chance to speak again here. since that post i have seen more of mert's posts and can see exactly what you and many others mean. he keeps loads of information to himself, he almost seems scared someone will take his info and build it better over here. has it happened to him before? what concerns me is his attitude, he lets people get to him, maybe (probably) they have a long history and bickering back and forth. i always give people the benefit of the doubt so maybe i was too lenient in this case, but at the point of that post he was just getting neg repped for posts that didn't deserve it so i figured i'd post in his favor. and so far i agree with everything you've said, he has not helped the advancement of the platform as of yet just because he showed numbers and claims about xyz block. he needs factual evidence to be respected here and he just isn't giving much if any at all.

oddjob, the guy might have broken records but he needs to contribute to this community with info that will help further development for all. Until he does this he will keep facing what he has been all this time on the forums.

right its kind of like a patent, thats what i was getting at in my most recent post, you need to give info to be respected/recognized.

I work with a lot of proprietary (confidential) information for my job. What you learn really quickly is that the information isn't as important as the person that is using it. Information is only valuable if it is being used.....

Want and example? Hand held GPS devices are readily available, but most people don't know how to use them properly. The main reason is a lack of understanding of how geodetic Datums work, and more critically, lack of language recognition. Most of the world doesn't understand "english" characters, and the parts of the world that could really benefit from GPS in day to day use, speak other languages.

So in my opinion, it's not just about sharing information, it's about explaining it in terms that people can understand.

Most people don't understand why a highway in their vehicle Nav is always 100m to south....

        Mert,

It would be great if you could tell us for example what your rod length is, and how you arrived at that specification. That would be useful information. 4.46 seconds is not useful information to most people.

Most of the great engine builders in the US have a saying: "There are no secrets". They realize just how hard it is to get a combination to work, that they stop focusing on hiding things, and start getting advice from other smart people. The more they learn, the more humble they become and realize that they really don't know much in the big picture. I encourage you to elevate yourself to that level, and become a technical contributor to the BMW community.

It's simply a difference in measurement, which actually goes back a long way through history.

For example, the earth has 2 north poles: Magnetic, and rotational. You can use a compass to navigate, or you can use the sun to navigate with. They both are accurate, but will give you a slightly different position. So there is one example of 2 different geoids being used.

The surface of the earth is not perfectly round though, so a straight line going east-west, will actually have a bend to it if you were to follow a parallel. This is why if you are driving way out in the country on a "county" road, you will find that it Jogs every once in a while. This is a correction, to keep the road roughly on a parallel. GPS systems need a correction system built in to match up the roads to the satellite signal they receive, and this is in laymen's terms the Datum that is being used. A very common one is WGS-84, but this isn't as accurate as very localized datums which take into account the shape of the earth in these areas. That's why you can have a vehicle using a datum that takes into account the average roundness off the earth, and it's off from the actual position of the road. You need a local or "UTM" datum to nail the position.

Then of course there's the unit of measure, which has a number of different ways to convert between, and often results in massive errors of location. Degrees, minutes, and seconds are not always the unit of measure....

Wait...isn't this a thread about the HPF Stage 5! Dang....sorry for the off topic!

i figured since we're OT anyway why not ask, and if HPF is going to give an update here, they are more than welcome to do it after this OT discussion is over or half way through lol.

is the reason because of the moon's pull? or is because the earth is spinning so it creates centrifugal forces, making the planet bulge as its equator? ive heard the earth is not a sphere but a spheroid right?
