    • New overall BMW 1/4 mile record set by a turbo E36, 9.05@157 - 8's around the corner

Congratulations to davidtm5 for his record breaking 1/4 mile run. David has an E36 with a built S52 motor running a giant GTX 42 turbo along with Bavarian Solutions cams. Car has hit in the mid 900's to the wheels (so over 1000 crank horsepower) at about 37 psi. Simply a beast and this was proven with a record setting 9.0 second 1/4 mile run in the middle of the Summer. Records just continue to fall and the bar keeps getting raised. The first 8 second 1/4 mile pass for a street BMW? Just around the corner.

Yes, I believe it's a built stock motor, with an aftermarket/custom F/I system and an aftermarket tranny.

To me, that has very little to do with whether it's a street car or not. Does it have plates, and is it registered for use on public roads? If so, does it ever get used on them? Does it get driven to the track, swap wheels, race, swap back, and drive home? Or trailered to the track, raced, trailered home and parked/tweaked until the next race day? I don't know the answers to those questions... but (IMHO) they help point to if a car is a dual-purpose street/track car, or a dedicated-purpose, full race car.

        YMMV.
Thank goodness you're not the guy who determines what a street car is or isn't. Click here to enlarge

True, very true - nor do I wish for such massive responsibilities. But I am the guy behind the guy behind the guy. So there's that. Click here to enlarge

The only thing that would keep me from driving to/from my track in my car is the 3hr drive each way.. if an axle broke, or driveshaft went out.. the tow home would be insanely expensive. If the track was less than an hour away nothing would stop me from driving to/from it and putting the drag wheels in the backseat.

That to me is a 'streetcar' .. keeping a car registered isn't difficult .. just don't drive it on the street.. wallah its registered keep the plates on it when you go to the drag strip.. that alone doesn't make it a street car.

To me its a street car when you can sit at a stop light next to a police officer and both leave at the same time and he doesn't pull you over. If it can do that, then its a street car in my opinion.

None the less this thing is insane!
