    • Video of BenzBoost member JRCART's Weistec Engineering supercharged CLK63 Black Series at the 1/4 mile drag strip - 10.8@130

Here is the video everyone has been waiting for. This is the first of what we believe will be many 10 second supercharged M156 V8 (63 AMG) Mercedes vehicles. The car was run in the Summer heat of Southern California at the Fontana drag strip which is notoriously slow. Density altitude went up over 3000 during the day yet the car still managed to hit 10's which is certainly impressive. 275/40/17 Mickey Thompson drag radials were used along with lightweight seats and race gas. Congratulations to Weistec and JRCART.

Thanks for the positive comments guys. The car was running the stock cams, not SLS. The track was not preped with VHT, we wish it was! The last time Jim had it out at the same track it was pulling 1.5 60 foots with a VHT prepared lane.

Makes sense. Look forward to the rd course vids!

Stock means stock - not OEM. Guess some guys have a problem with reading comprehension. And pulling flips flops off like flypaper Click here to enlarge
Great build guys, big congrats. Can't wait to see what this thing does in optimum conditions.

Nice to see you here responding thank you.

Question, why did you switch back to stock cams? Do you think they are more efficient than sls? From what was said in the interview it seems like the extra duration allows you to run more boost but you can make the same power with less boost with stock cams?

        Thx!

Dont tank this thread too lzh. You were wrong, still are wrong and "stock" can mean any factory cam by racing definition so dont get high and mighty, then again are you ever not, about me asking to make certain.

Do something with your stock pig instead of living through cart and others.

Well I just thought since you had such intimate knowledge of every aspect of this build that you would have known what cams they were running. And I'm sorry but "stock" means exactly that - STOCK. Showroom STOCK, what it came from the factory with. Cause last time I checked there was never an option to order the CLK BS with SLS cams from the factory.
But hey, you like reading between the lines. I wonder if you could read between the lines if I held up three fingers for you ?

Did he tell you that or did you see slips or videos? I'd take that with a grain if salt?

They (Weistec) were there with him that day at the private rental...a few of us were and I can attest to the 60 footers. Track prep was excellent and the video I took was posted previously.

He was at the $#@!ing track and saw it with his own two eyes as did about 15 other MB World and Benzboost members. Now go away and start $#@! in somebody elses thread!!!!

Congratulations! Truly impressive times! I saw that you have Illinois plates too. Don't take offense if I run in the opposite direction if I see you on the street, I'd get scared of being destroyed by your monstrous power, hehe.

They mentioned prep was very, very poor. Could walk out with sandals onto the pad and they wouldn't even stick.

I too was a bit confused with this, stock cams are in the car now.

awesome job to the driver and weistec, much respect for weistec.

        Car sounds AMAZING.

I love the fact that the car is strong, and reliable in daily driving conditions. Looks like the engineers did their homework.

10.8 in the heat with roll on launch is very good. Easy 10.5s with harder launches and better weather. Have you considered meth injection? Roots blowers need all the cooling they can get.

Last I saw posted by cart on this forum they were SLS, now they are stock 63 meaning there was a change, in either case it's not your fight so please swing from someone else's nads for a bit.

        Thx

        Weistec,

I have a question about open track performance with the supercharger. I was hoping to get the answer from cart but I get that he couldnt swap suspension setups in time.
There are stock cars without even a tune that go into limp mode due to the trans overheating on road courses in the summer. Some of the modified ones do it to but point is even untouched cars do it. Do you see the trans fluid temp ecu protection being an issue due to the seriously increased torque? Curious to hear your thoughts on this.

lzh please stay out, looking for a direct answer from weistec on this.

        Thx!!!

I'm not aware of any Black Series cars going into limp mode on the track. This, due to the additional trans cooler. It's no secret that plenty of C63's have gone into limp mode while on road courses. Especially C63's with long tubes and tunes. But the C63 wasn't designed for the track and this has been discussed many times over on MBW and I know many owners have been looking for an OEM style trans cooler a la the CLK BS - not sure if anyone has done it yet. So yeah, the C63 needs additional trans cooling and I'm sure throwing a blower on it might make the problem worse...I'm not rocket scientist but that one seems pretty obvious, no ? Was that direct enough for you ?

I actually think LZH or I are more suited to address this question since we have a lot more road course experience with Black Series than Steve does. I am not aware of any stock or untuned BSs having any limp mode issues. There were a small handful of guys(me included) with early Powerchip tunes that were experiencing some limp mode issues after long, hard stints on a road course. The issue was addressed over 3 years ago and I have not heard of it happening to anyone else since. As I stated I have not heard of a single stock ecu BS ever having this problem so if there is its news to me and considering I have attended road course events throughout the country with probably close to 20 BSs total at various events and never seen it happen I doubt its an issue.

I am itching to get it out on a road course and I will report back my results when I get it out there.

And this instance of limp mode was not trans related. It was the yaw sensors picking up too much side loading in turn 8 at big Willow. Again, the BS is made for the track. The C63 isn't and if you wanna use it that way and add power before cooling, then you are guaranteed a problems. You gotta pay to play.

You are 100% correct, I should have clarified that it was not even trans related.
