Well here it is, the BMW i3. Say hello to the electric era of BMW. The i3 seats 4 passengers. Its 170 horsepower and 184 foot-pound electric motor is powered by a lithium-ion battery. Power is sent to the rear wheels thankfully. With 170 horsepower it is not the most powerful car in the lineup and is said to hit 60 in under 8 seconds and hit a top speed of 93 miles per hour. Ultimate Driving Machine? Not exactly.
The entire car can be charged in just 6 hours using a standard wall outlet. A quick charge mode can give you 80% of the battery capacity in just 1 hour. Range is said to be 80-100 miles.
No word yet on price but we expect the entry level i3 to not be priced out of the reach of most city commuters which is exactly whom it is supposed to be aimed at.
