    • Audi R18 TDI race car driven by Allan McNish destroyed in massive wreck during opening hour of Le Mans

This is a horrific wreck which occurred during the opening hour of the race. The R18 TDI driven by Allan McNish attempted to make a pass to gain the overall lead and the space just was not there. The R18 collided with a 458 and the Audi just went flying into the guard rail with debris spraying everywhere upon impact. Fortunately, McNish was able to walk away and has been taken to a local hospital for scans and evaluation. It is a miracle this was not worse and that the spectators and photographers were not harmed.

458 driver Anthony Beltoise: "I have absolutely no idea what happened. I was on my second lap after a pit stop. I didn't even see the Audi coming up behind me."

Yep, and once he was off the road he was just along for the ride. It all happened in the blink of an eye.

Such a horrible accident. Glad he's okay. Even more impressive the Audi team came on top, despite the accident.
