Are they right? Well, Audi has been testing a SQ5 and possibly even an RSQ5 and with the way BMW and Audi are trading blows vying for luxury supremacy it is likely that they will try to compete with each other wherever they can. Audi is considering a Q6 to go against the X6 and it seems BMW wants an X3 M to go against the RSQ5. So, the entry level performance SUV niche is already set to heat up.
What puzzles us is this tri-turbo claim. Supposedly the motor will have 2 gas turbochargers and one electric turbocharger. This powerplant is also supposed to be based on the next generation M3 motor. That would mean the X3 M and the M3 would share motors but it would also mean... three damn turbos. What is going on? Well, it could be that nothing is going on as Car is simply asking us to take their word for it with a "source" they say they have. All that they have at the moment really is hits to their website with nothing to substantiate the claim although when our X3 M renderings went up Scott27, the supposed BMW insider, took notice and said there may be something brewing. Guess we will all have to wait and see.
