A 449 horsepower tri-turbo (yes, 3 turbos) inline six cylinder F25 X3 M is on the way?

Although I was not a fan of M-suv's in the first place. If I had to choose a platform for them to build a M-suv, it would be the X3. The X5 and X6 are just too big, X3 has a lot more potential.

My thoughts exactly.

I heard about a tri-turbo BMW engine in 2008 from a inside source. Talk was that the motor was for the new M3. At that stage I thought it was bull$#@! and people leading people on. The same source had shown a single turbo six in 2005 which eventually became the N54. Its strange how far ahead they develop potential engines. Same source had mentioned the V6 theory for the new M3. Lets see what comes out of it, then I can dig up all my old posts and tell quite a few people I told you so.

Question is can you get that inside source to give you any more details or confirm anything?

I think nobody really knows what is final until the top brass decide so the lower guys just test away. The guy I know speaks to people at VDO who develop the management systems so they themselves do not know what BMW is plotting. To date I have been very sceptical of what I have been told especially when I heard about the Tri turbo thinking that its far fetched talk but today the penny has dropped that the source is legit.
Its shocking how well information is protected considering info can leak from millions of sources which include anyone involved in production line set up to the company that does the injectors to even badging designers.

An interviewed spokesman stated that if the F25 X3 sold 200,000 units this year the F25 X3 M is a very distinct possibility. So I understand the reasoning behind it. I don't get the engine though, but it sounds really cool. I would like to see it a little more with some fender flares front and rear or just have a widebody on that bad boy. But that is what the aftermarket is for. G-Power would have a nice widebody for it. As you can tell I am trying to imagine what I could do with this thing. This will be a cool ride.And, good rendering.

200,000 units? The car is smashing success then and an X3 M makes sense.

It's kind of funny, the X3 in less than year has exceeded the 5 GT by multiples.

how would the piping on a tri turbo work>? how do you maintain equal pressure from the electric turbo with the other 2? who not just 2 bigger ones or a bigger motor for low end tq??
only thing i can think of is like the ford gt's and other cars where people do a compound charger, turbos blow into sc and then you get that pressure multiplied by the sc, other than big power whats the use for all that volume of air?

I don't know how this would work either, it's all rumor at this point.

the X3 xdrive35i is already dang quick, this thing should haul ass.

I have not driven an X3 yet, they are sold before they get here in this market. And I see them on the road as well. This SAV (still sounds weird) will be cool and the tuning aspects will be plenty!!! But that engine? Maybe just a new engine with twin turbos? Or has BMW planned something else? And I still want fender flares on it like the E82 1M!

They have a sales threshold and when that is crossed (which it will) it is being built. But BMW AG knew all along that they were going to build this anyway. How about an E82 1M and a F25 X3 M? Now that would be a cool garage. That would rock like my little buddy here to the right...

Forgot to mention and don't know why I didn't think of it earlier, but the entry level Porsche SUV may also be motivation for BMW to do an X3 M.

I need to find out how this tri turbo works, if indeed this is not speculation.

2 gas, 1 electric? Sounds like BMW is taking the lag thing to the absolute extreme. They hate it so much that they already under-size the current generation turbos. (In my opinion)

I'm sure that will be easy to work on and modify......
