      The M156 has received plenty of accolades over the years, deservedly so. However, its run in the International Engine of the Year awards has come to an end in 2011. The M156 won the Best Performance Engine of the Year category for the past 2 years (2009, 2010) as well as the best engine over 4.0 liters of displacement taking the place of the BMW S85 V10. The Ferrari 4.5 liter V8 from the 458 Italia has knocked the M156 out of both spots. It was a good run and 63 AMG owners with the motor should be proud that it took an engine in a car over $250k to beat it out.

        The engine in the Ferrari 458 Italia is phenomenal.... I got the opportunity to witness it first hand at the track and was very impressed with how it performed. The person ran consistent 11.0 to 11.1 on 20" stock wheels with stock tires without the ability to perform a standing burnout. He did do a mini rolling burnout, but it was nothing like a standing burnout Click here to enlarge

        11 flat on 20's with street tires? Wow... WOW.

        The motor in the Italia is amazing. The M156 did well, came in second place in voting for performance engine of the year.

        Yeah crazy times at the drag strip. He wasn't 100% stock but very close. His only mod was 200 cell race cats. His car also had the Ferrari performance wheel option, which offers lighter wheels. He trapped 127 mph most of the time, but did manage a 128 mph one time.

        This was at Famoso? Damn the 458 is impressive.

        Yep.... there were also a red one that ran in the April rental and it did pretty good as well: 11.5 @ 126 at 2200 ft DA which should correct down to an 11.2 to 11.3 I would think.
