Here is a nice comparison from Automobile where they take four of the hottest German performance cars out right now under $64000 (base price) to find which one is the best. The cars are the 2013 Audi RS5, Mercedes C63 AMG coupe, BMW M3, and the new Porsche Boxster S. The Boxster really being a roadster so it doesn't not fit in cleanly into the comparison but if someone is cross shopping based on price it certainly fits in. ...Published on 11-19-2012 09:20 AM
Here is a race between two GermanBoost members. M3ntal with his modified 996TT with HTA 3071 turbos on E85 capable of 717 wheel horsepower and Mr. Squeeze's built motor 370Z twin turbo which so far has shown 647 wheel horsepower at 19 psi. The Porsche is on E85 and the 370Z on 100 octane so both were certainly trying to show their best. The 996TT however is the victor leaving the 370Z behind from a ~55 mph roll although the Z puts up a fairly good fight. ...Published on 11-18-2012 06:23 AM
The Porsche Panamera platform is modular and the future Panamera chassis will be shared by many models in the VW Group portfolio. There is a good chance we will see a revival of a Porsche GT style coupe with a front engine V8 and two seats based on the Panamera. An independent artist took it upon himself to render what such a vehicle might look like. The Armenian artist calls the coupe a Porsche 929. ...Published on 11-17-2012 04:11 AM
The entry level Porsche SUV designed to slot in below the Cayenne is coming as we know from all the spyphotos. The SUV will be based on the current Audi Q5 platform and likely have many drivetrain similarities with its Audi counterpart. This means a 2.0 turbo four-cylinder as an entry level motor with the same automatic transmission. Porsche will likely develop their own 3.6 V6 turbo based on the Panamera V6 for the high performance offering of the Macan likely offering over 350 horses. ...Published on 11-16-2012 06:51 PM
It is not secret that the new 981 Cayman will make its debut at the LA Auto Show this month. As tends to happen these days, photos of the new car were leaked out before the debut. Unfortunately the photo quality is not very good with low resolution and fairly poor lighting but the pictures definitely show the general shape and layout of the car. These photos are not all that flattering however and still contain a little camouflage on the lights. ...Published on 11-15-2012 02:25 AM
Congratulations to M3ntal for some very impressive results from his stock internal Porsche 996 Twin Turbo. Modifications consist of forge intercoolers, IPD Competition Plenum, custom E85 fuel system, FIC 1100cc injectors, Tial 44mm external wastegates, tial 50mm blow off valve, Hallman Pro boost controller, Sachs 764 PP clutch, and FP HTA 3071 .63 AR turbos. This combination was tuned by Roshan Patel (mafless tune). ...Published on 11-13-2012 02:00 AM
A rather notorious weak point in 996 Porsche cars is the rear main seal or RMS. A quick google search for Porsche RMS issues will return a ton of info on the problem. Bentley Publishers show you how to fix it however and if you have a 996 Carrera (Turbo, GT3, and GT2 996's with the GT1 engine block are not effected nearly as badly or often) the video is definitely worth watching and apply either as preventative maintenence or if you have increasingly noticed oil on the ground under your 996 Carrera. ...Published on 11-09-2012 07:59 PM
The new 981 Boxster has been on the market for a little bit and obviously just as with the previous generation a Cayman will follow. Earlier this year the car was spotted completing its final round of testing so it seems Porsche is ready to make the official debut at the Los Angeles International Auto Show later this month. Porsche said they would debut a new "compact sports car" so by process of elimination, it simply has to be the new Cayman. ...Published on 11-08-2012 08:13 PM
You may remember that in August of this year a video was posted showing Chris Harris in a 997 GT2 RS racing a Ducati 1199 Panigale S on the drag strip. Suffice it to say the Ducati crushed the 997 GT2 RS which is no surprise but Harris' poor drag strip performance was partially to blame. So now a 2 mile long race from a roll was chosen for the rematch between the Ducati bike and Porsche's fastest production 911, the 997 GT2 RS. This type of race takes away a bit of the bike's advantages. ...Published on 11-08-2012 03:00 AM
Here is Techart's offering for the new 981 Boxster. Nothing crazy as nothing crazy is necessary to make the beautiful new Boxster look good. Just simple upgrades including a lip, rear spoiler, mirror covers, fender vent insert, and a rear diffuser piece. The car is also lowered to give it a more aggressive stance on 21 inch Techart wheels. Who would have ever thought 21 inch wheels would fit a Boxster and even look at home on it? ...Published on 11-07-2012 03:40 PM
Canadian body stylist Anibal Automotive Design does not do subtle body kits. Their designs tend to be way over the top and their "Attack" body kit for the 991 is no exception. This is a widebody kit with huge flared fenders and large side intakes. Additionally, a large rear spoiler is added with a rear carbon fiber diffuser. The end result certainly is not something that one would refer to as subtle or low key. ...Published on 11-06-2012 05:41 PM
The Boxster S has received the majority of the press leaving the base Boxster out in the cold so to speak. This is the first test posted that PorscheBoost has come across featuring the base Boxster equipped with the 2.7 liter flat-6 putting out 265 horsepower and mated to the 6-speed manual transmission. Acceleration performance from this motor and transmission combo is a very respectable 14.0@103 in the 1/4 mile. ...Published on 11-05-2012 03:38 PM
Here is the body piece offering by Caractere for the new Porsche 991. This is the same kit photos were posted of at SEMA. The body kit consists of a new front bumper, front lip, side skirts, rear wing, and diffuser. The side skirts integrate a non-functional rear vent which is an interesting styling element but considering how it offers no functionality and it is simply added on to the exterior body work makes it seem a bit tacky and unnecessary. ...Published on 11-03-2012 07:13 PM
Pretty natural move here with Porsche moving from the 997 to 991 for racing. Will the new 991 be more competitive? Well, it simply has to with BMW and Chevrolet beating up on Porsche in ALMS for the past few years. Not to mention Ferrari will be coming on strong and now Dodge is in the mix with the new Viper. Another piece of news is that the Porsche Flying Lizard ALMS team will no longer be a development partner. ...Published on 11-02-2012 02:50 PM
Is this how Porsche will finally move away from the 911? Porsche CEO Matthias Muller confirmed a mid-engined Porsche sports car is under development which will be a rival for the Ferrari 458 and the McLaren MP4-12C. This vehicle would be priced above the GT2 RS but obviously much less than the upcoming 918 Spyder hybrd-supercar. Expect similar $250,000-$300,000 pricing as the Ferrari 458 and the McLaren MP4-12C. ...Published on 10-30-2012 09:04 PM
Was great to see these wheels in person that have been generating a lot of buzz. Yes, 100% full carbon fiber wheel including the barrel that weighs only 15 pounds for a 19 inch. That kind of weight savings does not come cheap as a set of four costs $15,000. But... if you want the absolute lightest wheel and with dymag no longer in existence as a carbon wheel manufacturer (and that wheel was not 100% carbon fiber) this is it. ...Published on 10-29-2012 10:10 AM
Here is a fairly good looking body kit design for the new 958 Cayenne from United Kingdom based tuner Kahn Design. Much of what Kahn does tends to be tacky and overdone but this is one kit that works to a dgree. Obviously it includes wide fenders, a new front bumper, rear diffuser, and spoilers. The fenders are where the car falls apart a bit though as they look somewhat tacky and glued on. The white color of the car doesn't hide this well and but a darker color could off it off better. ...Published on 10-28-2012 04:11 PM
Here is SpeedART's 981 Boxster tuning program. They have parts available for the Boxster as well as the Boxster S. The body kit pictured is available for either car. It includes a new front spoiler, side skirts, wing, and rear diffuser. The body pieces are very good looking but the wing may be a bit much and does not look too clean. Interior upgrades are also available. ...Published on 10-24-2012 06:42 AM
Downpipes are an area turbocharged motor owners especially in the German car world definitely need to look at if they want maximum power out of their motors. Various German manufacturers tend to stick cats right off the downpipe and this is a major restriction. You want your turbos to breathe and the answer to that is the AR Design downpipes which they have just finished developing for the 955 and 957 generation Cayenne turbo. ...Published on 10-24-2012 12:37 AM
Obviously the Porsche Macan will be based on the Audi Q5 but that is about where the similarities end says Porsche. Porsche R&D chief Wolfgang Hatz states, "Everything has been modified. Engines, transmissions, suspension — it’s all new. Audi can’t believe what we’ve done. Audi should have no fears as the customers are so different." Yet, he also states the car will get a four cylinder motor meaning likely the same VW Group 2.0 turbocharged four-cylinder. ...
