The Porsche Panamera is getting a facelift for 2014. It will consist of the typical minor cosmetic changes including the front and rear lights as well as the front and rear bumpers. The interior will get some minor tweaks as well. The real piece of news though is a rumor that the Panamera S will drop its current 4.8 liter 400 horsepower direct injected naturally aspirated V8 for a twin turbo V6 powerplant with similar power but more torque. ...Published on 01-13-2013 07:30 PM
After tons of speculation, teasers, and hype, General Motors finally revealed the 2014 C7 Corvette today. The design is very futuristic and modern definitely more so than the new Viper. It's angular, it's edgy, but it still looks like a Corvette. What about the notorious weak point with recent generations, the interior? It's an improvement, definitely, but still not up to European standards. It still appears to have those cheap looking plastic switches and vents as well that same center console design but the rest of the quality of the materials appears majorly improved. ...Published on 01-12-2013 04:46 PM
Supersprint released their exhaust for the 991 Carrera S and it sounds excellent. The exhaust consists of a catback system featuring 4x90mm chrome slash cut tips with rear X-pipe and bypass pipes. Side mufflers are included for a more quiet mode. The video starts with the valves closed and the sound is a bit muffled. Once warmed up and the bypass is activated the car really opens up and even shoots some flames out the tips. ...Published on 01-12-2013 01:23 AM
Here is a new power kit courtesy of TPC Racing for the new Porsche 981 Boxster S called the Blitzkrieg Atmo 355 Powerpak. 355 referring to the estimated crank horsepower rating (up from 315 stock) after adding this kit. It consists of an ECU flash, performance intake plenum, silicon induction kit, and 83mm throttle body. This parts combined are enough to raise the output of the Boxster S from a baseline of 285.8 wheel horsepower to 309.6 wheel horsepower SAE. ...Published on 01-04-2013 07:11 AM
Here is a nice and fairly long (7 minute) video form Vivid Racing showcasing a 997 Turbo equipped with the Vivid Racing VR825 package. This is a $15,995 tuning package for the 911 Turbo which is capable of adding 330 horsepower at the wheels to a 997 turbo. With no meth and on an all wheel drive Mustang dyno, a VR825 car hit 765 at the wheels up from the 435 wheel horsepower baseline. Certainly impressive gains. ...Published on 01-03-2013 02:31 AM
The 911 Turbo and Nissan GTR battles tend to go back and forth depending on level of modification. The cars are compared frequently due to the similarity of all wheel drive and twin turbo six-cylinder powerplants which make for great tuning platforms. In this instance a Protomotive tuned built motor 996TT with a 3.8 liter flat-6 and a pair of GT3582 turbos on C16 simply pulls away from a tuned Nissan GTR estimated to be making somewhere in the mid 700 wheel horsepower range. ...Published on 12-31-2012 10:30 PM
Ok, in the Viper's defense it is not exactly a brand new car. This is a first generation Dodge Viper RT/10 which was fast for the early 90's but these days does not exactly set the world on fire. Still, for back in the day it the numbers were not bad at all showing a capability of high 12's in the 1/4 mile with a trap speed in the 113 mile per hour range. The power rating of the 8 liter V10 was "only" 400 horsepower at the time. ...Published on 12-31-2012 01:04 AM
The sprint to 60 is not quite as important as it once was due to just how powerful cars have become. It is usually a traction limited stat but there are still cars where traction is not the limiting factor and these are all wheel drive cars. We are going to see more and more vehicles switch to all wheel drive and it is hard to deny the performance result. How about 2.7 seconds to 60 miles per hour for the 2012 Porsche 911 Turbo S? ...Published on 12-29-2012 10:21 PM
Congratulations to M3ntal on putting down a very impressive 1/4 mile run with his stock motor 996TT. You may remember this car dyno'd 717 wheel horsepower on the stock motor with E85 at 22 psi. For this run the car was running 22psi and E85 along with FP30R turbos with the tune coming from Roshan Patel. The end result is a very stout 10.3@136 1/4 mile run. The car also appears to be converted to rear wheel drive. ...Published on 12-27-2012 11:40 PM
Users who read this site are performance enthusiasts who definitely like to press the gas pedal down from time to time. We are all guilty of it but sometimes it's how you do it. A guy in a 996 GT2 on the highway runs into an F13 M6 and wants to play, understandable. New BMW with a twin turbo V8 and the Porsche owner wants to see how he stacks up. The only issue is the amount of traffic on the highway and how both guys start weaving in and out. ...Published on 12-26-2012 11:22 PM
Car and Driver finally was able to test the 2013 Boxster S with the PDK dual clutch transmission. Unsurprisingly, it is quicker than the manual version although the two are not too far off from one another. Also unfortunately both cars were not tested on the same day but one can still get an idea. The PDK car is 2/10's faster to 60 than the 2013 Boxster S manual and maintains that 2/10's lead through the 1/4 mile with a 12.7@111 versus 12.9@111 that they hit with the manual. ...Published on 12-24-2012 07:51 PM
The Porsche entry-level sedan named Pajun is set to get the green light for production and will come by 2016. That seems a while off considering the Macan entry-level SUV and Cayenne little brother should be revealed as early as next year. Apparently Porsche wants to evaluate the model for around a year. The Pajun would no doubt mirror the drivetrain offering of the Macan which means 2.0 liter four-cylinder powerplants borrowed from the Audi/VW catalog and Porsche's own 3.6 liter turbo V6 version based on the Panamera V6. ...Published on 12-20-2012 05:00 PM
So the VW and Porsche saga gets yet another chapter. As you may remember, Porsche tried to take over Volkswagen but in their attempt spread themselves a bit too thin. This allowed VW to swallow up Porsche and not the other way around. There were also accusations of manipulating stock prices and investor's funds which were used in the takeover bid. This is something that stood in the way of the VW acquiring Porsche earlier this year as investor's who lost their money were quite angry with Porsche preparing a lawsuit seeing $3.2 billion. ...Published on 12-17-2012 05:05 PM
This is my previous car that I shared about on another forum that banned me, but thought it was good info looking into tuning a 911 turbo. Car info: 2007 manual 997.1 turbo with 43,000 miles on Shell 93 octane. First the numbers, all these figures are with sports mode on and my Europipe. Note that the filters were not included in these numbers (see below). ...Published on 12-15-2012 06:19 PM
The VF-Engineering supercharger kits available for the 996 and 997 Carrera models make for quite a bump in horsepower making for a potent vehicle. As dyno results of the VF-Engineering VF475 kit show on a 997 Carrera 3.6 the horsepower bump is substantial adding 120 horsepower to the wheels for a total of 441 wheel horsepower on a dynojet in SAE. Not a bad way for one to get 911 Turbo performance without having to trade the car in. Also the ability to remain rear wheel drive. ...Published on 12-13-2012 08:02 PM
Here is a roll on race at the air strip featuring an E46 M3 with an HPF (Horsepower Freaks) Stage 2.5 turbo kit putting out 700 wheel horsepower versus a 997 Twin Turbo that is modified and who owner is claiming puts out 685 horsepower at the wheels. The E46 M3 beats the 997TT down pretty easily so it leaves one wondering if the Porsche is really putting out the power the owner is claiming. In all fairness to the 997TT though the E46 does appear to get a sizable jump. ...Published on 12-12-2012 12:06 PM
The Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Concept is supposed to point to future Porsche styling directions. Porsche is pushing this concept very hard and here is yet another piece of media showing the car off. This design direction is important as the new Porsche models such as the Macan will be borrowing from it. Beyond the styling, the drivetrain is based on a hybrid setup which also will be a staple of future Porsche models. ...Published on 12-11-2012 05:10 AM
Spyphotos of the upcoming Porsche Macan entry-level SUV have shown it looking like basically a squished Porsche Cayenne. The Audi Q5 platform based SUV will apparently undergo a large redesign to differentiate it more from the Cayenne. Porsche admits the Range Rover Evoque has inspired the styling change. Straight from Porsche design chief Michael Mauer, “As the person responsible for the look of the cars, I'm not afraid to make changes. When I saw the Evoque, I thought, interesting. I like it.” ...Published on 12-10-2012 05:48 AM
Misha Designs continues to expand their body kit offering. Recently a 955/957 body kit was released for the Cayenne and now Misha Designs has tackled the Panamera. The GTM kit pictured below is for the regular Panamera body but includes wider rear fenders. One can also order it without the rear fender extensions which gives a considerably cleaner look. Overall, the kit is fairly well done without being too over the top. ...Published on 12-10-2012 12:52 AM
After teasing us for a bit Porsche has finally revealed the new Porsche 991 GT3 Cup Car. It is based on the upcoming 991 GT3 and features a 3.8 liter flat-6 putting out an eye-opening 460 horsepower. This is a bump of 10 horsepower on the previous generation cup car. Rear aerodynamics are adjustable with the rear wing and the front features a splitter and dive planes to generate downforce. Tires are wider in front and back and increase of 2 cm and 1 cm respectively. ...
