There are two races in the video versus the same Porsche 996 Turbo. The first video is an outside the car view, which, well, sucks. We are still able to see the 996 Turbo is able to take the 2011 GTR with undisclosed bolt ons. The second red GTR is a 2012 Black Edition with mid pipes and an Ivey Tune. The 996 Turbo beats both and was running 25 psi on its upgraded turbos with E85. The GTR ripped it out of the hole and on the first couple shifts only for the horsepower advantage of the 911 Turbo to take over. ...

Who does not love to see cars versus bikes? The car here being the 911 GT2 RS which is capable of high 10's around the 133 mile per hour trap speed mark and the bike being the Ducati 1199 Panigale S. The Ducati has a 415 pound curb weight and a 195 horse motor putting the power to weight easily in the bikes favor. A good rider should be able to extract a 10 flat in the 1/4 mile in the mid 140 mile per hour range with the Ducati. ...

Congratulations to Porsche whose sales continue to improve at record pace. At this point last year, Porsche sold 60,659 cars. At the same point this year, 69,171 for a difference of 14%. Sales are up 20.8% in Germany alone and 24.5% in China. The biggest market for Porsche, the United States, is up 5.8%. Porsche 911 sales are up 27.9% alone due in large part to the launch of the new 991 model generation. ...

The new 981 Boxster is an absolutely gorgeous car inside and out and a large improvement on the previous generation model getting lighter and faster. Insideline got their hands on the manual version which posted some impressive numbers with only 315 horses. 60 miles per hour came in 4.9 seconds and the 1/4 mile came in 13 seconds flat at 108.7 miles per hour. This car is quicker/faster than an E46 M3 with less power. ...

Sales of the new Panamera Turbo and Cayenne Turbo which share the same motor are stopped by order of Porsche. Porsche issued a recall as well for 2011-2012 models. The reason for the stoppage and recall is due to a defect in the turbo compressor wheel which may cause it to break and force oil to be drawn into the exhaust causing risk of a fire. This does not affect all turbo models just those produced with an alloy wheel by an outside supplier in a limited run. ...

The GTR and 911 turbo are cars frequently compared due to their similarities. All wheel drive, twin turbo six cylinders, and dual clutch (optional in the Porsche) transmissions. They also are frequently modified for huge horsepower. Two of the premier companies for tuning these cars are Protomotive for the Porsche and AMS for the GTR. The Alpha 12 Package by AMS for the GTR is said to be capable of 1500 horsepower and is their highest horsepower offering. ...

This is a great 1/4 mile comparison to see as it is real world with real owners. The Porsche 911 Turbo is a 997.1 model 6-speed manual that is completely stock. The Audi R8 V10 has an APR tune and Milltek exhaust. The R8 has the R-Tronic sequential manual transmission. The turbo runs an 11.88@119 with a 1.64 60 foot. Clearly the Porsche owner knows how to drive. The R-Tronic R8 surprisingly only manages a 11.97@119 with a 1.9X 60 foot. With a better launch the R8 should win but rather surprising a tuned R8 V10 was this close to a stock 997.1 turbo. ...

Congratulations to Porsche and drivers Patrick Long and Jorg Bergmeister for their first place finish at the NorthEast Grand Prix held at Lime Rock in Connecticut. This marks the first victory for Porsche of the 2012 season and is the first win since 2011 at Laguna Seca. The GT class fight was very tight with cars swapping positions up until the very end with the four lead cars within less than a second of each other in the final 15 minutes. ...

Introducing the Agency Power 991 Carrera S bypass pipes which are a nice and cost effective upgrade for the 991 Carrera S which save weight and add power. The baseline dyno was done on a Mustang Dyno and shows 344 rear wheel horsepower. The car is a PDK and this is less than we have seen on dynojets which is fairly common with Mustang dynos. The bypass pipes add 14 horses at the wheels which is certainly a nice gain. Graphs and video are below. ...

We are not too sure why Champion calls this a street legal version of the 911 RSR race car as that vehicle is based on the GT3. Champion started with a 997 Turbo S on the car you see here which means rather than a high revving GT1 race car derived motor it has the new turbo flat-6. This vehicle also had a PDK transmission which the RSR does not. The all wheel drive is also another difference versus the race car rear wheel drive. It would probably be more accurate to state this attempts to mimic RSR performance for the street as the name really makes no sense with all the differences. ...

This is somewhat bittersweet news although we applaud Porsche for wishing not move their brand downscale as everyone else is doing. Porsche executive board member Bernhard Maier stated the car does not fit the brand, "To build a Porsche for 30,000 euros currently doesn't fit our brand. The extraordinary purchase experience is not for free and the entry price is currently covered with the Boxster and in the future by the Macan." ...

This is a 997.1 Porsche 991 Turbo with the Tiptronic (automatic) transmission. Modifications include Champion Motorsport 68mm Variable Turbine Geometry turbos, AWE exhaust, and a custom GIAC tune. The baseline was 385 all wheel horsepower stock on a Mustang MD-500 dyno. With the turbos, software, and exhaust the car put down 529 to the wheels a gain of 144 all wheel horsepower. This is all on 91 octane pump gas. ...

Just as we expected from the launch of the 991 Club Coupe Porsche has released their 991 Carrera S Powerkit giving a boost of 30 horsepower. This mirrors what Porsche did with the previous generation 997 Carrera S releasing a Club Coupe that led to the X51 performance package option offering more naturally aspirated power before the arrival of the GT3. Pricing has not been announced for the Powerkit but the X51 Powerkit option on the 997 Carrera S cost $17,000. ...

The new 2013 981 Cayman will make its debut before the end of the year at the Los Angeles International Auto Show in November. The engine options will likely get a bump from the Boxster. This means the standard Cayman with the 2.7 liter flat-6 will likely be bumped to 280 horses from the Boxster's 265 and the Cayman S will get 330 a bump of 15 horses from the Boxster S. Check out our renderings of the upcoming Cayman here. ...

These three vehicles may all be convertibles but they are not exactly the same types of cars. The 2012 Mercedes SL500 is more of a grand touring car offering a folding hard top. The F13 6 Series has a folding soft top and sort of bridges the gap between the sports car 991 Carrera S and the SL550. If one looks at the pricing of all the models however, it is easy to see how they could all be cross shopped. ...
